Principal Message
Dolphin Families,
It was a great week to be a Dolphin!
Creativity was everywhere today as we concluded spirit week with Character Day. It was wonderful to see so many students in costumes, many of which they created themselves. Thank you for always helping your child with bringing the fun and creativity during spirit weeks!
We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude for the month of November. One way to think about Gratitude is "choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives." Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and even our happiness! At Daffodil Valley we are grateful for your partnership supporting each Dolphin every day.
This month, we will be celebrating many special traditions at Daffodil Valley, including honoring our Veterans. We look forward to sharing our gratitude at our upcoming assembly on November 9 and seeing you during conferences at the end of the month.
Go Dolphins!

Writing Focus at DVE!
On Friday, October 16, all DVE teachers participated in professional development focused on strengthening writing instruction—a schoolwide priority in our School Improvement Plan. A team of staff members who attended a WIDA writing workshop led the learning, bringing ideas and strategies back to share with our teachers.
The focus was “building the field,” which means helping students build knowledge, vocabulary, and ideas about a topic before they begin writing. Teachers experienced a lesson as students, learning about the rusty patched bumblebee through activities they could bring back to their own classrooms.
An important takeaway was: “If you can say it, you can write it!” Giving students opportunities to talk about their learning and rehearse their ideas aloud helps prepare them to put those ideas into writing. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our writing instruction and providing more opportunities for students to practice and grow as writers!
You can support this learning at home by asking your student:
What are you writing about in class?
What type of writing are you working on—informational, opinion, or narrative?
What have you learned about your topic?
Can you share a piece of writing you are working on?
Thank you for partnering with us to support our growing writers! 🐬
Sumner Community Food Bank
We are grateful to the Sumner Community Food Bank for generously providing Friday food bags for many of our students! Please remind your child that any food bag they receive, including an extra bag, must remain closed until they arrive home. Students should leave all food items inside and should not open their bags at school or on the bus. Thank you for helping us reinforce this expectation and for supporting this wonderful community partnership!
Trait of the Month - Gratitude
Family Challenge
What are some small, specific things that you are Grateful for? Maybe it is your favorite water cup, the way the cat sleeps on the chair, or when your grandma bakes banana bread. Spend some time as a family trying to think of at least 10 small things that you have Gratitude for and then choose to notice them this week with a smile.
Attendance Matters
When Should Your Child Stay Home?
ood attendance helps students succeed—but sometimes, staying home is the best choice.
