Panther Message
Greetings Panther Family! ⛄
We hope that your 2026 is off to a great start! Throughout the winter months, we encourage all of our families to establish a cozy reading area within your home. This is a great way to promote the love of reading with your child. We have seen so many wonderful and engaging lessons happening across our building! We are hoping to see even more whole school perfect attendance days to celebrate. Our 100th Day of School is Monday, January 26! Students are welcome to dress creatively, and appropriately, in recognition of this special day! Our 1st semester Awards Program is on Friday, January 30 at 2 pm. We appreciate your continued support!
Warmest Regards,
Ms. Logan and Ms. Wolfe

Mrs. Whittaker's GT Moments
Mrs. Whittaker's class participated in an igloo challenge. Students had to create an igloo with sticks and marshmallows to hold a Lego figure. There was much creativity that went into this GT lesson. The activity involved problem solving and a high level of student engagement. Great work to our GT/SAIL class!

Important Attendance Information
Attendance Do's and Don'ts
Attendance Do’s:
- Do send written excuses or legal documentation for any absences within 3 days of the student's return to school.
- Do prioritize scheduling appointments (e.g., doctor, dentist) and vacations/breaks outside of school hours when possible.
- Do communicate early with the school if your child is experiencing challenges that may impact attendance (e.g., transportation issues, health concerns).
- Do monitor attendance through the school's portal or by contacting teachers regularly.
- Do encourage punctuality—students arriving late often miss important instructional time.
- Do ensure students attend all classes on eLearning or remote learning days, especially in hybrid or online formats.
Attendance Don’ts:
- Don’t assume absences will be automatically excused—documentation must be provided for any excused absence.
- Don’t allow unexcused absences to accumulate. Excessive absences can result in academic consequences and potential truancy issues.
- Don’t ignore notifications from the school regarding tardiness or absenteeism—address concerns early.
- Don’t send excuses via text or email unless they obtain an original/written signature.
2026-2027 School Calendar
As you review the 2026–2027 school calendar, we kindly ask that you plan family trips and vacations accordingly.
We all value a good vacation. Time to relax, recharge, and create lasting memories with loved ones. While we absolutely understand the importance of family time, we also want to emphasize how vital regular school attendance is for student success. Being present and engaged in the classroom allows students to fully participate in learning and stay on track academically.
With this in mind, we encourage families to schedule vacations during designated school breaks or over the summer whenever possible. Missing instructional time can make it challenging for students to keep up with lessons, assignments, and classroom activities.
Please note that, per CCSD District Policy JH – Student Absences and Excuses, students in grades K–12 may not be eligible for promotion if they accumulate more than 10 absences during the school year. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, we encourage all families to make school attendance a top priority.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in your child’s education. We truly appreciate your commitment to helping our students succeed.
Warm regards,
Jane Edwards Elementary School

Coleman's Counseling Corner
Dear Students and Families,
Happy New Year! As we begin the month of January, our school counseling focus will be on Growth Mindset. A growth mindset encourages students to believe that their abilities and intelligence can grow through effort, practice, and learning from mistakes.
Throughout the month, students will be reminded that challenges are opportunities to learn, mistakes help us grow, and persistence leads to success. We will be encouraging positive self-talk, goal setting, and resilience both in the classroom and beyond.
Thank you for supporting our students as they develop confidence, perseverance, and a love of learning. Together, we can help them start the new year with a mindset that supports growth and success.
Warmly,
Ms. Coleman
