HCS FISH FRY & CHURCH PICNIC
The Holy Childhood fish fry and church picnic are approaching quickly! The fish fry is one week from today, August 21, and the picnic is the following night, August 22.
Here’s how you can help us make it a success:
The Country Store is in need of homegrown vegetables and fruit, homemade treats, jellies, jams, shelled nuts, and homemade crafts to sell. Breads, muffins, and cookies are also popular! They can be dropped off in the school office next week.
We need your help next week (Aug 17-20th) to ensure a successful event. Please plan to help set up on Monday evening. We begin at 5:30, but come when you can. All ages are welcome; we will find a job for you. We continue setting up Tuesday through Thursday evening beginning at 5:30. This is a great opportunity for students to earn service hours.
* If you are not signed up to work a stand on Friday or Saturday, please contact Shelby for availability or sign up after next weekend masses.
Many cakes and pies are needed for next Friday’s fish fry, Saturday’s dinner, and at the Sweet Treat stand. We ask that every family donate. Please, nothing that must be refrigerated. These items may be dropped off at school anytime on Friday or on Saturday by noon. Please label cakes and pies so we know what type they are. Please label items “Country Store” if they are for that stand.
*NEW THIS YEAR*
All desserts must be in on Friday (anytime) or Saturday BY 2 PM. We cannot accept desserts later than this. If you need help transporting desserts, please contact Shelby Brennan at (618) 581-7598.
SCHOOL LUNCHES AND INFORMATION: PLEASE READ
Please note on the lunch menu for August:
There will be no lunches served either Friday, August 21 or Monday, August 24. This is because of the need to prepare as well as clean the kitchen from the Picnic Weekend. Please plan accordingly and provide your child a sack lunch for those days.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Help Keep Our Cafeteria Thriving!
Our cafeteria team works hard every day to serve fresh, nutritious meals to our students. To keep this valuable service available to our school, we depend on family participation in our school lunch program.
For this reason, as well as for safety and efficiency, we do not offer microwave access for lunches brought from home. If packing a lunch, please use an insulated thermos for hot items or send meals that can be enjoyed cold. Thank you for your support!
TEXT MESSAGES AND EMAIL ALERTS
In order to keep families informed:
Besides our weekly newsletter, I will sometimes send home text messages for quick reminders. We know how our lives get busy and those little details about the school day can easily be forgotten.
As an example, I have already scheduled for you to receive two text messages next week:
1. On Tuesday evening, you will receive a reminder that we dismiss students 1 hour earlier every Wednesday throughout the year.
2. On Thursday evening, you will be reminded about no lunch service on Friday (August 21) & Monday (August 24).
By chance, if you do not receive these messages, the first thing you might want to check is to see if you have your phone numbers listed correctly in FACTs. I only send the messages to parents, or anyone listed as a "correspondence". After that, if you have any questions, please let us know in the office and we can troubleshoot if needed.
Thank you!
UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES AND BEYOND!
SCHOOL DROP-OFF INSTRUCTIONS
Some quick reminders:
1. Doors open at 7:30 every morning.
2. We ask that kids who are not in Before Care go to the gymnasium and wait until dismissal from there. (If your particular child's teacher has different instructions, they will communicate that to you directly).
SOME ITEMS FROM THE PARISH OFFICE
1. Families and households are invited to participate in the ancient church custom on the Solemnity of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary, to bring fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs from your gardens arranged in a basket to be blessed at the Church. At the 5:00pm mass, Saturday, August 15 at Holy Childhood and the 8:00am mass at St. Liborius and the 10:00am mass at Holy Childhood on Sunday, August 16, bring your baskets and place them on the steps of the sanctuary and during the offertory, they will be blessed.
2. Several of our School Families have asked that their child is not to be videoed or photographed. Therefore, to respect these parents' privacy for their children, Masses will not be live streamed or otherwise made available for viewing of the weekday masses. Thank you for your understanding
3. For the safety of our children, CHURCH ST. (the street that goes between the south side of school and north of the church) will be closed during school days. Barricades will be in place after mass as concluded until the end of the school day. Also, please do not enter the school parking lot during school days, The Parking Lot is used for recess, P.E. and other breaks. Please park on INDEPENDENCE STREET for any school business.
