As the school year comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who contributes to making Medway High School such an exceptional place to learn and grow. This final edition of the Mustang Minute also marks the end of my time as principal, and I am filled with gratitude as I reflect on the opportunity to serve this community.

I have been fortunate to work alongside outstanding students, dedicated staff members, supportive families, and committed community partners. Together, we have celebrated successes, faced challenges, and always kept students at the center of our work.

Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your support over the years. It has been an honor to serve as principal of Medway High School.

Grade 8 students from the Middle School will be visiting the High School for Grade 8 Step Up Day on Monday, June 8, 2026. This day is designed to introduce students to Medway High School and instill confidence prior to 9th Grade Orientation and their first official day as Medway High School students. This program is run by the Peer Counselors and student leaders from a variety of clubs and activities. An information session will inform students about the differences between middle school and high school, resources and supports available and provide portraits of multiple student experiences. Students will have the opportunity to tour the building and lunch will be provided.

After our senior week activities, we turn our attention to recognizing the achievements of students in grades 9-11. Our grade 9 and 10 awards will be on Tuesday, June 9th during Flex Block. These are not open to the public. Our Junior class awards and Book Awards will be on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Junior recipients and families will receive email invitations for the event. This event is open to the public.

The Senior Parade will take place rain or shine on Thursday, June 4th. Seniors will wear their caps and gowns to visit and celebrate with students and former teachers at other Medway schools. Parents are welcome outside. No parents in MPS buildings.

Parade Schedule:

• 8:10 a.m. – Meet Dr. Murray at the Medway Middle School parking lot. Students will walk across the field to Burke.

• 8:20 a.m. – 1st Stop: Burke-Memorial School.

• 8:30 a.m. – 2nd Stop: Medway Middle School. (Seniors will wait in the MMS parking lot until 8:55 a.m.)

• 9:00 a.m. – Final Stop: McGovern School.

• Directly following the McGovern School visit, seniors will head straight to Medway High School for the 10:30 a.m. mandatory rehearsal.

Crucial Reminders for Seniors

• Carpooling: Parking is strictly limited at both Medway Middle School and McGovern. Please carpool to the parade kickoff as much as possible.

• Conduct: Remember that you will be visiting elementary and middle school students. Please watch your language and serve as excellent role models.

• Visitor Policy: For safety and scheduling constraints, parents are NOT permitted to enter any of the school buildings during the parade.

• Pacing: Walk slowly during the parade routes! Give your former teachers a chance to see how much you have grown since the 2nd or 5th grade.

• Punctuality: We are operating on a very tight schedule to coordinate across multiple schools. Please be on time.

• Inclement Weather: In the event of rain, leave your caps and gowns in your cars during the parade so they do not get damaged or stained prior to the formal graduation ceremony on Saturday.

Seniors should then report directly to MHS for the mandatory graduation rehearsal from 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at Hanlon Field. The Senior BBQ will follow from 12:00–1:00 p.m. Attendance is required.

We are looking for student volunteers to help make Medway High School’s Graduation a smooth and memorable event. Volunteers will assist with handing out programs, distributing water, and helping guests find their seats.

Students interested in volunteering should sign up using the Graduation Volunteer Form.

Grade 9 Biology MCAS will take place on Tuesday, June 2 and Wednesday, June 3 during the first two blocks. Students should report to the same testing locations used during ELA and Math MCAS administrations.

We are continually looking to expand the internship opportunities for our senior students. We are specifically looking for additional partners in the Business & Finance industry for next school 2026-2027 and are hopeful to start new partnerships with organizations who work in the architecture field and the trades (specific interested in HVAC). Seven senior students visited The Willows in Medway this week to share their capstone projects with residents and staff. The Willows, part of Salmon Health & Retirement, is a senior living facility offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care options and is also one of Medway High School’s internship partners. This visit by the capstone students provided an opportunity to showcase their learning, creativity, and hard work as they approach the final days of their senior year. The experience highlighted the value of communication, collaboration, and community engagement, while giving students an authentic audience to celebrate their accomplishments. The residents and staff were impressed by the project ideas and the passion the students showed while presenting their solutions to real-world problems. Thank you to The Willows for hosting, to the seniors for participating, and to Mr. Jasinski for leading the capstone experience!

In the interest of enhancing the visual experience for residents and visitors to our town, the Medway Cultural Council is inviting school artists to help transform a local traffic signal electric box into whimsical, visual, and graphic delights that will provide an entertaining and stimulating experience to passersby. The Medway Cultural Council will make selection recommendations, and final approval will be made by the Town of Medway’s Design Review Committee (DRC) and Select Board. MHS will transition from YouScience BrightPath to MEFA Pathway after June 30, 2026. Students who wish to save their YouScience results should download them before that date. MEFA Pathway will be introduced next school year and offers similar college and career planning tools. Students’ YouScience BrightPath assessment results are available as a downloadable PDF prior to the June 30th discontinuation date. As we head into the final stretch of the school year, there is a lot to celebrate at Medway High School. This Friday marks the last day of classes for our seniors, with senior finals beginning next week and several exciting senior events to follow. We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 as they prepare for graduation and their next chapter beyond Medway High School.

This past Friday, we were also excited to celebrate our juniors and seniors at prom. Thank you to our junior class advisors, Heather Gifford and Katy Golden, our senior class advisor, Daphne Kovatsi, along with the many chaperones and staff members who helped create such a memorable night for our students.

As we celebrate these milestones, we remain focused on meaningful learning through the end of the school year. AP exams concluded this past week, MCAS Math testing for sophomores takes place this week, and important classroom learning continues each day.

Looking ahead, we are already planning for the 2026–2027 school year. In collaboration with staff, we will continue to focus on applied learning, increasing opportunities for student discourse, and strengthening students’ connection to real-world learning experiences. We will also begin implementing MyCAP, My Career and Academic Plan, with a focus on building student responsibility, reflection, and accountability.

We have also seen dramatic improvement with cell phones this year. In many classes, we hardly see phones out during instruction, which is a credit to the consistency of our staff and students. At the same time, the potential for new state legislation around cell phones in schools may impact how we are required to manage devices moving forward. We will continue to follow this closely and plan for any needed changes.

The Math MCAS testing is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19th and 20th. Attendance and punctuality are crucial since this test is a state-mandated graduation requirement.

All tests will be computer-based. Ensure your child brings their fully charged school-issued Chromebook. Calculators are permitted on the second day. We have limited available to borrow so please bring your own.

Students should arrive at school on time and check the main lobby for their testing room assignments, which will be posted starting tomorrow. Testing begins promptly at 8:04 am.

There has been some discussion on social media regarding senior events, so I wanted to clarify one important point in case you receive questions from friends or community members outside of MHS.

The Senior Grad Walk is a Medway High School event intended for graduating Medway High School seniors only. Students attending other schools are not eligible to participate.

A special thank you and congratulations to Jon Jasinski for his leadership and support of our students throughout this work. These awards recognize exemplary student achievement in applied learning, engineering, and capstone design, and are a reflection of the meaningful, real-world learning experiences happening at MHS.

Congratulations to Rishi Gupta. Rishi recently had the opportunity to participate in the Regional Semifinals of the U.S. Department of Education’s Presidential 1776 Award for Civics. He was selected from a large pool of applicants across the country to represent Massachusetts at the competition, which brought together a small group of students to demonstrate their knowledge of the Constitution and American history.

General Dynamics Electric Boat Hiring
Class of 2026 students still exploring post-secondary options may be interested in entry-level trade opportunities with General Dynamics Electric Boat, the premier designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines for the U.S. Navy. More information and the online application are linked below.

Local 4 Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program
Class of 2026 students interested in the trades may also want to explore the Local 4 Operating Engineers apprenticeship program. Applications open each November in person at their Canton office. More information is available on their website.

Medway Utility Box Art Program
The Medway Cultural Council is inviting student artists to submit proposals to help transform a local traffic signal electric box into a creative public art display. The deadline to submit a proposal is June 1.

This year, Medway High School is making several adjustments to the graduation ceremony layout at Hanlon Field. Because this will be our first graduation on the newly renovated turf and track, we are taking additional precautions with the new surfaces in mind while still preserving the dignity, visibility, and tradition of the ceremony. Most importantly, our priority remains providing the Class of 2026 and their families with the same meaningful and memorable graduation experience they deserve. To be clear, these adjustments are not budget-driven; they are part of our planning for holding graduation on the newly renovated turf and track.

Graduates will continue to be seated on the field, as they have been in the past, while general family and guest seating will be located in the home bleachers rather than on the field. Each graduate will receive six family tickets, and the bleachers provide enough capacity for all ticketed guests. Additional family members, friends, and guests will also be able to view the ceremony from the field perimeter.

This setup will provide families with an elevated view of the ceremony, with students and families facing each other, as well as direct sightlines to the diploma presentation. Students will walk across a low-platform stage to receive their diplomas, and Tim Rice will be taking individual graduate photos as usual. The updated layout also allows us to reduce the amount of chair setup on the field and move away from the larger elevated stage setup used in the past.

We are confident that graduation will continue to be a wonderful, meaningful, and memorable celebration for the Class of 2026 and their families.

On May 15, students will engage in a variety of activities, including diagnostic testing, class elections, outdoor activities, and a financial literacy fair. Detailed scheduling information will be delivered to students early next week. The plan for the day is as follows:

Our Sophomores will be taking Math MCAS Tuesday May 19th and Wednesday May 20th. Students are allowed to use a calculator during Session 2 offered on Wednesday. The MCAS testing platform has an embedded calculator for students to use. We are asking that students come prepared with their own calculator as we have limited numbers to loan out to students for testing.

On Friday, May 15, Medway High School will conduct annual SBIRT substance use screenings for Grade 10 students and the End of Year Panorama Survey for all students. The SBIRT screening is a brief, confidential process to identify student risk and support needs, while the Panorama Survey provides insight into school environment and student connectedness. To opt out of SBIRT, please use Online Registration (OLR) by Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. Students opted out of the screening and/or survey will report to the cafeteria during the session. Dear MHS Students and Families,

I hope you all had a great weekend. Last week was incredibly busy at Medway High School with several celebrations and culminating events, including the Five Town Special Olympics, the Innovation Showcase, and College Decision Day. It was wonderful to see our students, staff, families, and community partners come together to celebrate the many accomplishments of our students. Thank you to everyone who helped make these events so meaningful.

I also want to thank those who participated in Friday’s Assistant Principal finalist visits. The candidates had the opportunity to meet with several stakeholder groups and get a sense of what makes MHS such a special community. This week, I will be reviewing feedback and conducting reference checks. I hope to make a recommendation by the end of the week and will keep the community updated.

AP Testing begins this week and runs from May 4 through May 15. To support a quiet testing environment, bells will be turned off during testing, and announcements will be made only during non-testing times. Families should also be aware that students may leave after a morning AP exam or arrive late for an afternoon AP exam, as appropriate. Students will receive emails with their testing dates and room locations. It's important that they bring a charged, school-issued Chromebook.

A reminder that the Quarter 4 gradebook update was Friday, May 1. This is the only Quarter 4 update for seniors, so students and families are encouraged to check Infinite Campus and follow up with teachers as needed.

Finally, we are aware that Senior Soak has begun. While this is not a school-sponsored activity, we know that many seniors participate each year. We ask all students to use good judgment, be respectful of neighbors and community spaces, and follow the rules students have created for the game. In particular, students should not interrupt school events, athletic events, concerts, shows, meetings, work shifts, or any unsafe situations. Please be mindful of noise, property, traffic, and the time of night. The goal should be fun, safe, and respectful participation.

Last week, Medway High School was proud to host the Five Town Special Olympics, bringing together students, staff, families, and community members for a wonderful celebration of inclusion, respect, teamwork, and school spirit.

Events like this remind us of the power of community and the importance of creating opportunities where every student is seen, supported, and celebrated. We are grateful to everyone who helped make the day possible, including our student volunteers, staff members, visiting schools, families, and event organizers.

A special thank you to all of the athletes who participated and inspired us throughout the day. We are proud that Medway High School could be part of such a meaningful event.

Our 6th annual Innovation Showcase was a vibrant celebration of student achievement highlighting the powerful impact of hands-on, career-connected, applied learning. The event displayed an impressive range of capstone projects, engineering projects, and internship experiences as well as engaging demonstrations from our robotics team and our zSpace technology. We also welcomed the addition of some of our many school clubs this year including Newswatch and Newspaper, The Summer Street Times (https://mhssummerstreettimes.com/). Students proudly shared their work with peers, staff, families, industry professionals, and community partners, demonstrating not only their technical skills and creativity, but also their growth as problem-solvers, collaborators, and communicators. For the first time in this event’s six-year run, we welcomed all faculty and students to the Showcase during flex block. From real-world internship reflections to innovative design projects, the Innovation Showcase underscored how experiential learning is preparing our students for success beyond high school. The energy throughout the event reflected a strong sense of school pride and community, as we celebrated the diverse pathways our students are exploring. The Innovation Showcase served as a meaningful reminder of what’s possible when learning is active, relevant, and connected to future careers.

MHS inducted 15 members to Medway High School Troupe 8867 of the International Thespian Society Wednesday April 29th at 6PM. Through their work in theatre, the candidates have earned the right to become members of the International Thespian Society. “The Society was established in 1929. The organization is named for Thespis, the ancient Greek who, according to legend, stepped out from the chorus and became the first actor. Medway Public Schools will conduct annual substance use screenings for Grade 10 students on Friday, May 15, 2026, in alignment with Massachusetts law. This brief screening process, known as SBIRT — Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment — is designed to help identify and support students who may be at risk.

Screenings take approximately five minutes and are conducted by the school counseling team. Results are confidential, are not part of a student’s academic record, and will not result in disciplinary action. Participation is voluntary. Parents/guardians may opt their child out through Online Registration (OLR), and students may skip any questions.

Get ready for our upcoming Innovation Showcase on Thursday April 30th, 12-2pm, where creativity, problem-solving, and real-world learning take center stage! All students and staff will have the opportunity during flex to attend and explore an exciting range of student projects, from capstones to internships, highlighting innovative ideas and career-connected work. Faculty and students will be called down to the event in the gym in three 15-minute waves during flex block. Students, please note you will only sign up for an H1 flex on 4/30. You will stay with that chosen flex teacher for the entirety of the whole flex block, 12:35-1:31. We look forward to having you share in the celebration of the incredible talent and hard work happening across our school community!

The School Counselors would like to continue our annual celebration to recognize Seniors post-secondary plans on Friday, May 1st. We encourage all seniors to wear a clothing item of the college/university you plan to attend or trade you plan to pursue. The School Counselors will be in the lobby on Friday morning before school and during the first period. We are excited to bring back the MHS Financial Literacy Fair on May 15 from approximately 8:30–11:30 a.m.

This interactive event gives students the opportunity to explore real-world financial decision-making. Students research a career, receive an entry-level salary, and work through budgeting choices such as housing, transportation, and lifestyle expenses—balancing financial responsibility with future planning.

We are currently seeking community volunteers to help facilitate stations and provide feedback to students as they navigate these scenarios. No financial expertise is required—just a willingness to engage with students and support their learning. Last year’s volunteers played a key role in making the event a success, and we hope to expand participation this year.

There are also limited opportunities for individuals with a background in financial services to speak briefly with students.

Medway looks forward to this night all year! The MHS Pops Concert is a fun-filled event that showcases the award winning MHS Concert Band and MHS Combined Choruses. Also performing will be the Medway High School Jazz Band, MHS A Capella Chorus, and the Medway Middle School Jazz Band, too!

Under the direction of Ms. Nelson-Oneschuk, the chorus students have prepared a great selection of Broadway tunes. The MHS A Cappella will perform selections from Hamilton and the MHS Combined Choirs are sure to bring the house down with some “WICKED” good music.

Ms. Cronan's MMS Jazz Band will perform jazz pieces from the greats, as well as jazz standards that we all love.

On Wednesday, May 13th, the Blackstone Valley Workforce Development Hub will welcome over 400 students to a collaborative event uniting high school seniors from across central MA who are still considering their post-secondary options with nearby businesses eager to recruit fresh talent. The gathering will take place on the Concourse at Polar Park in Worcester, where students, schools, businesses, and organizations will come together for a morning dedicated to exploring career options, networking, and conducting interviews. This field trip opportunity is for senior students who do not yet have a concrete post-secondary plan and would like to explore employment options. Seniors who choose to come must be serious about seeking job opportunities and must bring a resume to the event. The Work-Based Learning Alliance (WBLA) is a non-profit organization that provides
virtual work-based learning opportunities to high school students. WBLA offers paid virtual internships to high school students across the country. Internships are available across various industries. WBLA’s programming is 100% virtual, so there is no need to travel to a work site to participate. Students will need to participate in multiple Zoom meetings each week, and will need to use a laptop, Chromebook or tablet with a working camera as well as reliable internet connectivity. Students should be ready to work collaboratively within a team and also work independently to complete their own work in their internship. These experiences reflect how remote work happens in the workplace, so students will need to be self-disciplined and personally driven to successfully participate. WBLA internships are 50 hours in length, meaning that a significant time commitment is required each week to complete the internship. Students will need to dedicate 12-13 hours per week during a summer internship. Not sure what your plans are after high school? The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) offers a valuable opportunity to explore your strengths and potential career paths.

Medway High School will offer the ASVAB on Thursday, May 21 from 8:00–11:00 a.m. in the School Counseling Office. This assessment is open to Grade 11 and 12 students and is a useful tool for all students—whether or not they are considering military service.

The ASVAB helps identify strengths in areas such as math, reading, and technical skills, and provides a personalized report connecting those strengths to a wide range of careers. Results can support planning for college, technical programs, apprenticeships, or entry into the workforce. There is no cost to participate.

Interested students should sign up with Mrs. Rondeau in the School Counseling Office. We encourage juniors and seniors to take advantage of this opportunity.

We hope all of our students and families had an enjoyable long weekend, and we extend warm wishes for a joyous Easter and Passover to those who celebrate.

As a reminder, Quarter 3 grades closed this past Wednesday, and report cards will be posted on April 13th. With that, we officially enter Quarter 4, the home stretch of the school year.

While the next couple of weeks will feature typical school days to start the quarter, the period following April vacation will be especially busy. The remainder of the year is filled with events, showcases, celebrations, and important testing windows, including AP Exams and MCAS.

As we move into the final quarter, we often see attendance begin to waver with the arrival of warmer weather and the anticipation of summer, particularly for our seniors. We want to emphasize that the MHS attendance policy remains in effect for all students, and expectations are even more critical for seniors given the limited number of remaining school days.

Students may receive a No Credit (NC) for a quarter based on unexcused absences as follows:

• Classes meeting 4 days in a 5-day cycle: 5+ unexcused absences (3+ for seniors in Q4)

• Classes meeting 2 days in a 5-day cycle: 3+ unexcused absences (2+ for seniors in Q4)

We also want to highlight a few important reminders:

College Visits
Students are encouraged to visit colleges and universities as needed. For these absences to be excused, documentation from the college admissions office is required. Seniors and juniors may each be excused for up to four (4) college visit days per year. Please note that only the day of the visit is excused, travel days are not.

Family Vacations
Absences due to family vacations are considered unexcused and are strongly discouraged. Families are encouraged to plan trips in alignment with the school calendar. Additionally, the school does not provide work in advance for vacation-related absences; students are responsible for making up all missed work upon return.

Final Exams & Travel
If a student misses a final exam due to vacation, exams must be made up after the school year ends. Second semester exams will be administered during the summer. Students will receive an Incomplete (I) until the exam is completed and graded.

The MHS AAPPL and ALIRA testing will begin April 6 - 10 during world language classes.

Please be sure your student brings their school-issued Chromebook fully charges and ready for testing. The AAPPL and ALIRA tests differ from other standardized tests, such as MCAS or SAT, as they are proficiency-based assessments designed to determine a student's ability to function in a language in real-life circumstances while assessing reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The feedback from these assessments will support language acquisition for your students and the overall student experience in a very powerful way.

Through this program, students learn that depression is treatable, how to recognize warning signs in themselves or peers, and how to seek help using the ACT model (Acknowledge, Care, Tell). Students will also complete a brief screening tool, which is not diagnostic but helps identify those who may need support.

The Medway Model UN Club participated in the Clark University Model UN conference on Saturday, March 28th. Students served on committees discussing pressing topics such as the Syrian Civil War, the housing crisis facing North American cities, the European Migration Crisis, and the Argentinian financial crisis. They did a great job preparing for these difficult topics, and speaking in front of large groups of students. Well done!

Get ready for our upcoming Innovation Showcase on Thursday April 30th, 12-2pm, where creativity, problem-solving, and real-world learning take center stage! All students and staff will have the opportunity during flex to attend and explore an exciting range of student projects, from capstones to internships, highlighting innovative ideas and career-connected work. Faculty and students will be called down to the event in the gym in three 15-minute waves during flex block. Students, please note you will only sign up for an H1 flex on 4/30. You will stay with that chosen flex teacher for the entirety of the whole flex block, 12:35-1:31. About 30 MHS students attended the Metro South/West Youth Connections Annual Trade and Construction Expo in Marlborough on April 2nd, where they had the opportunity to explore a wide range of careers in the skilled trades and construction industries. There was representation from industries in construction & heavy equipment, electrical & energy, automotive & transportation, tools & manufacturing, cosmetology, specialty & emerging careers, education & training, and much more! MSW Youth Connections provided the industry vendors with raffle tickets and each student earned a raffle ticket by engaging with the industry expert and learning more about that specific trade. Through hands-on demonstrations, conversations with industry professionals, and exposure to cutting-edge tools and technology, students gained valuable insight into high-demand career pathways. The experience helped them better understand the skills and training required for success in these fields, while also sparking interest in future internships, certifications, apprenticeship, training, and employment opportunities. The event ended with lunch and an extensive raffle prize giveaway!

On Thursday during Flex, students in grades 9 and 10 will participate in a required bus evacuation drill in accordance with Massachusetts state law. This safety exercise provides students with important information and hands-on practice for safely exiting a school bus in an emergency.

A reminder that all 10th-grade students will be taking the ELA MCAS next Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24th & 25th.

Students had an assembly last week to review all testing logistics, and they will receive a final email with specific room assignments for the test.

Testing Reminders

• Testing will occur during the first three blocks in the one hallway zero floor.
• 10th-grade students will report to the cafeteria to start the day Tuesday morning before the test.
• Arrive to school on time Tuesday and Wednesday for testing and remember to charge your Chromebook the night before. Loaner Chromebooks are in short supply and will not be available for students without charged Chromebooks.

We are excited to welcome Anthony Valentine to Medway High School this Wednesday, March 18. Anthony is a former EMT and the founder of KultureMAG who uses his unique background to help students navigate the pressures of modern life. His message focuses on resilience, self-worth, and the belief that every student has a powerful story to tell.

Anthony’s approach is heartfelt and relatable, using humor and real-world experiences to help students move past challenges and build a clear path toward their future goals.

Wednesday’s Schedule:

• 8:04 – 8:55 AM: Students report to E Block for morning check-in.

• 9:15 – 10:30 AM: School-wide Assembly in the Auditorium.

• 10:30 – 11:34 AM: Students return to their E Block classrooms for a guided reflection session.

As part of this experience, every student will receive a custom-designed "Internal Mixture" journal to help them process the morning’s themes and keep as a personal resource for self-reflection.

The course registration process for the 2026-2027 school year is currently underway. This process is central to ensuring every student is on a path that aligns with their goals, interests, and graduation requirements. The process also dictates what courses are offered and our staffing needs.

Please note the following key actions and dates:

• Action Required: Students and families should log into the Infinite Campus Portal under “Course Registration” for the 26–27 school year to submit their course requests.
• Portal Deadline: The portal was open until March 11, 2026 to enter elective course requests.
• Course Override window is open until March 16 if a recommendation does not match the desired level. Additional work could be required to change a level. Forms are available in the Guidance Office.

• Individual Advising Meetings: All students will meet one-on-one with their School Counselor between March 23 through April 10 to review teacher recommendations and discuss academic plans. Counselors will also ensure students have enough credits and requested the correct amount of electives and alternatives.

April SEPAC Meeting – “I Wish I Knew…” Parent Discussion

This meeting will be a parent-only conversation designed to bring together families from McGovern Elementary, Burke Memorial, Medway Middle School, and Medway High School. This relaxed discussion will focus on “What I wish I knew before my child moved to the next school.” Parents can share experiences, ask questions, and offer advice to families whose children may soon transition into a new school. It was an exciting and successful week at Medway High School!

On Friday night, our Girls Basketball Team won their Elite Eight matchup and advanced to the Final Four. They will face Bishop Fenwick on Tuesday at 5:00 PM at Emmanuel College. We wish them the best of luck as they continue their incredible tournament run.

Today, the Medway Cheerleading Team captured the Division 3 State Championship, marking their second state title in the last three years. What an incredible accomplishment for our athletes and coaches!

These achievements add to an outstanding winter season for Medway athletics. Our Alpine Ski Team recently won the State Championship, and Davis Campbell captured the state title in the high jump. Congratulations to all of our winter athletes and coaches for representing Medway with such pride and success.

Finally, congratulations to our drama department on a smashing success with this year’s school musical, Legally Blonde. After months of rehearsals and preparation, our students delivered a fantastic production that showcased their talent, dedication, and hard work.

This winter has brought its share of illness, and we encourage students to stay home when sick. However, we have also seen an increase in absences not related to illness, particularly around tests, quizzes, and major assignments. To ensure fairness and accountability, I want to remind students and families of our make-up work policy:

• Excused Absences: Students have the same number of days as their absence to complete missed work. In extraordinary cases, additional time may be granted by teachers or administrators. Students are responsible for collecting make-up work and rescheduling missed assessments.
• Unexcused Absences: Students must contact teachers to determine what they missed and be prepared to make up any test, quiz, or major assignment upon their return. Homework assigned in advance or posted online is still due at the next class meeting. Failure to complete work may impact grades.
• Special Circumstances: In cases of family emergencies or illness, teachers and administrators may use discretion to provide accommodations.

This policy is not meant to be punitive but ensures students stay on track academically while promoting responsibility and fairness. Thank you for your continued support!

The AAPPL and ALIRA tests differ from other standardized tests, such as MCAS or SAT, as they are proficiency-based assessments designed to determine a student's ability to function in a language in real-life circumstances while assessing reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The feedback from these assessments will support language acquisition for our students and the overall student experience in a very powerful way. The feedback will also provide important information to our teachers to continue improving our program. The assessments will be given during world language classes from April 1-10, 2026. Female students in the WiSTEM club and Innovation Career Pathways program were given the opportunity to participate in the Digital Divas Technology Boot Camp Workshop put on by Blue Mantis at Gillette Stadium on March 3rd. This hands-on event is all about sparking curiosity, building confidence, and showing how careers in technology can be both fun and powerful. The students with mentorship from industry-leading professionals from Blue Mantis, Microsoft, Lenovo, Rubrik, Comcast, and Fortinet collaborated with other students to work through interactive activities and real-life challenges related to cybersecurity and incident response. This workshop not only immersed the students in technical scenarios, it also gave them exposure to a wide range of professionals in the tech industry, experience in a professional conference setting, and helped them build employability skills like teamwork and communication. Thank you to Blue Mantis for inviting Medway High to this interesting event!

Metro South/West Youth Connections is hosting their 4th annual Trade and Construction Expo on Thursday April 2nd in Marlborough. This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the trade and construction industries and career paths in these fields by exploring post-secondary options, participating in hands-on activities, and learning directly from professionals in the field. This event runs from 9am-1pm. Transportation and lunch will be provided. Students will have the chance to win raffle prizes! Juniors and seniors were emailed more information about this event and a form on March 4th with a link to sign-up! We are proud to announce that 37 Medway High School students will be participating in the National Latin Exam this Thursday, March 12th, during Flex blocks. This prestigious exam challenges students on their mastery of Latin grammar, reading comprehension, mythology, and Roman history. This provides an opportunity for our students to increase their awareness of the variety of post-graduate options available to them, whether students plan to attend college, the military, or enter a trade. We encourage students and families to review these materials carefully as they consider course selections for next year.

Please contact your student’s school counselor with any specific questions.

Teacher course level recommendations for next year will be entered into Infinite Campus by Monday evening and will be visible Tuesday morning in the Parent Portal under Academic Planning > Course Requests.

If a student would like to pursue a different level than recommended, they may request a Course Placement Review. A review is not an automatic level change.

Placement Review requests may be submitted March 2–March 16. Forms are available in the School Counseling Office.

To request a review:

• Complete a required conversation with the current teacher or department head.

• Obtain student and parent/guardian signatures acknowledging the expectations of the requested level.

• Submit the completed form to the School Counseling Office by March 16 for counselor review.

There will be no summer placement review process. All requests must be completed during this March 2–March 16 window.

Elective course registration for the 2026–2027 school year will take place in Infinite Campus for current students in grades 8–11.

Please review the attached slides for step-by-step instructions on how to enter course requests in the Parent or Student Portal. Students should select courses based on the grade they will be entering in September 2026.

We are proud to share that Medway High School has been named a 2025 AP® School Honor Roll Platinum School by the College Board and has also earned the AP Access Award for expanding equitable access to Advanced Placement coursework.

Based on 2025 College Board data, only 10% of qualifying Massachusetts high schools earned Platinum distinction, compared to 8% nationally, placing Medway among a select group of top-performing schools in the state and across the country.

This recognition honors schools whose AP programs deliver strong results while broadening student participation. Medway achieved Platinum status in all three categories:

📚 College Culture (82%) – 82% of the Class of 2025 took at least one AP Exam

🎓 College Credit (71%) – 71% earned a score of 3 or higher

🚀 College Optimization (40%) – 40% completed five or more AP Exams

To earn Platinum distinction, schools must exceed rigorous benchmarks in all three areas — and Medway surpassed each one.

A big shout out to our local athletes competing on the world stage! Medway native Zachary Di Gregorio placed 8th in men’s doubles luge at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina with partner Sean Hollander. Matt Boldy, a Millis native who attended Medway schools, scored the opening goal in the Gold Medal game against Canada for the U.S. Men’s Olympic Hockey Team.

Closer to home, MHS freshman Sam Hazel earned a bronze medal in luge at the 2026 Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid, NY.

Roll Stangs!

As part of our ongoing effort to enhance our halls and shared spaces with meaningful student artwork, Medway High School will soon feature vibrant adhesive murals that celebrate student voice and highlight the creativity within our school community.

One mural features a delicate gouache painting by alumna Camilla Meredith, inspired by her Taiwanese heritage and expressed through thoughtful color and symbolism. Another installation showcases a mixed-media triptych by Charity Johnson, exploring themes of identity, growth, and personal experience.

Installed near the cafeteria, a third mural was created collaboratively and inspired by A Lua (The Moon) by Brazilian modernist artist Tarsila do Amaral. Each student designed an individual section, and the pieces were assembled quilt-style into one unified composition — distinct works coming together to create something larger.

Together, these murals add color and character to our building while showcasing the talent, perspectives, and voices of our students. We are grateful to Ms. Maureen Brodeur and Ms. Noelle Jackson for their leadership in guiding this work and bringing these installations to life.

Financial Literacy Opportunity

A representative from Charles River Bank will be outside the MHS branch on Wednesday, February 25 from 10:30 AM–12:00 PM to connect with students and staff.

She’ll be available to answer questions about opening checking accounts, building credit, and planning for future financial goals.

The 2026–2027 Program of Studies is now available for students and families. We encourage everyone to review it as part of course selection planning.

This year's POS includes several important updates, with the largest changes related to electives. To improve scheduling flexibility and ensure courses run with strong enrollment, electives will now be organized into two groups: courses offered every year and courses offered on an alternating A/B year schedule. This structure will help students plan ahead and reduce scheduling conflicts over their four years.

Additional updates include:
• Fine & Performing Arts requirement to be completed in Grade 9
• Adjustments to Competency Determination aligned with state guidance
• Several new course offerings, along with the retirement of a few low-enrollment courses

Important Changes to the Medway…

Every student will meet with their teachers and school counselors to talk through course selection. If you have questions, please reach out or join one of our upcoming webinar sessions for additional support.

From February 9–27, teachers will begin meeting with students in grades 9–11 to discuss course recommendations for next year in Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and World Language.

These conversations are designed to help students reflect on their progress this year, celebrate strengths, and identify the course level that will provide the right balance of challenge and support. Teachers consider classroom performance, growth, and assessment information, including IXL and MCAS, when making recommendations.

Our goal is to ensure every student is placed in courses where they can feel confident, continue growing, and be successful. Families will be able to view recommendations in Infinite Campus once the process is complete, and a placement review option will remain available if needed.

We encourage students to take an active role in these conversations and ask questions about their learning and goals for next year.

The Peer Counselor trip to the middle school on Thursday Feb. 5th was a great success. The 8th graders were extremely engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and showed genuine excitement about the transition to Medway high school. Our Peer Counselors did an outstanding job presenting clear, informative, and encouraging information, highlighting the many amazing academic, extracurricular, and support opportunities that Medway High School has to offer. Overall, it was a positive and impactful experience for both the presenters and the students.

During Flex Block on Tuesday February 10th, 9th grade students will meet with their peer counselors for a guided reflection on Semester 1. Students will have the opportunity to think about their growth, challenges, and goals moving forward. To wrap up the session, students will create Valentines as a fun way to build connection, kindness, and school community. 💗

The World Language Department is excited to announce the induction of 58 students into the Latin, French, and Spanish National Honor Societies! These students were chosen for excelling in their grades, commitment, and enthusiasm for their respective languages of study. The formal induction took place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 and included speeches, certificates, and celebration with food. It was a very special and joyous event for all involved!
