BWMS Family Update
9/24/26
Spirit Week is Coming!
BWMS Families,
Can you believe this Friday is the mid-point of the 1st quarter? We call these Grade Update Days and we encourage all parents to log into PowerSchool to check the progress of their student's performance. Have a conversation with your student about how things are going and what they are learning. Find out how they take advantage of the multiple opportunities to be successful by reassessment at BWMS. Also, information about signing up for our next conference on Thursday 10/1/26 is posted below.
Also, next week is Spirit Week and we look forward to seeing our Eagle Pride with the full school participating in our spirit days sponsored by our Student Council. See below for the themes and Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
Mr. Josh Frame

Big Walnut Middle School is excited to celebrate Start with Hello Week during the week of October 5th. Every year, thousands of schools participate in Start with Hello Week, which is a week dedicated to making social connections and creating a sense of belonging in schools. During this week, your student will have the opportunity to engage in activities that help them meet new people and build community. This week also meets requirements for House Bill 123 and is a state-approved resource. If you have any questions or would like to opt your student out of these activities, please reach out to your student’s grade-level counselor. The week will finish with our Stomp Out Bullying Day on Friday 10/9/26.
6th Grade Outdoor Education will take place during the week of October 6th according to the following schedule by team - 10/6 for 6-A, 10/7 for 6-B, and 10/8 for 6-C. Additional details can be found below.
Art Club will begin meeting weekly on Thursdays on 10/8/26 after school. Both Mrs. Briant and Mrs. Van Horn will have rotating projects and a great time to spend with friends.
Attention 8th grade families: there will be in informational meeting about our spring Washington DC trip on Thursday 10/8/26 at 6:00 PM in the auditorium. Our trip coordinators, Ms. Ainsworth and Ms. Barr, will share preliminary details about this annual trip.
Parents, we have had a few more broken screens of chromebooks recently, if you could remind your student to be careful with the storage and care of this device, especially when in their backpack, it would be greatly appreciated.
Attention 6th Grade Families
The outdoor education field trip letters were distributed to 6th graders via hard copies as well as through Parent Square this week. We would ask that all forms are returned to the following teacher (6A-Graven, 6B-Wion, 6C-Benson) by September 9th. Payment is due by Sept. 23 via Hometown Ticketing at This LINK.
The 6th grade Outdoor Education Program will take place the week of October 5th according to your students team. Look for the details in ParentSquare.
Big Walnut Middle School is organizing an exciting day trip for our 6th grade students. Recreation Unlimited staff will be leading the day, in conjunction with BWMS teachers, at Recreation Unlimited’s facilities during your student’s scheduled day. This trip will allow your student to experience outdoor education tailored to supplement the sixth-grade content standards. Activities will address the core subject areas and related arts areas. Students will participate in a variety of outdoor activities to enhance their learning.
Student Drop Off Reminders
Student drop-off is from 7:05–7:25 AM. First period begins promptly at 7:30 AM, and students who are not in class by 7:30 will be asked to sign in at the office. Please plan accordingly and allow enough time for your student to enter the building and get to class.
As you move through the drop-off loop, please utilize the entire length of the sidewalk. If your vehicle is stopped anywhere along the sidewalk, your student should exit the vehicle at that time. Students may enter the building through either the front entrance or the athletic entrance, so there is no need to wait until you reach a specific entrance before allowing your student to exit.
Please also continue to pull forward as far as possible, all the way to the cone located past the athletic entrance, before stopping. Using the full length of the sidewalk allows multiple vehicles to unload at the same time and helps prevent unnecessary backups in the morning.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep morning arrival safe, efficient, and on time!
8th Grade - DC Trip Meeting - 10/8/26
Our team is finalizing the details of our Washington D.C. trip in May for our 8th grade students. There will be an informative meeting on October 8th at 6:00 in the BWMS auditorium. We are looking forward to sharing the itinerary, cost, and other details at this meeting. Also, the Big Walnut Middle School website will be updated with information as it becomes available.
