Superintendent's Update
January 30, 2026
Dear CCPS Families -
I want to begin by extending my sincere gratitude for your patience and flexibility during this past week’s winter weather. Decisions regarding school closures and virtual learning days are always made with the safety of our students and staff as our top priority, and we appreciate your partnership in ensuring that instruction continued safely during the recent snow and ice.
As we look ahead to a busy February, I want to highlight two upcoming dates for your calendars. First, Friday, February 6, is a district-wide Spirit Day, and we invite all students and staff to wear their favorite sports jerseys to school to celebrate our community pride. Additionally, please remember that Monday, February 9, is a scheduled Professional Development Day for our staff; therefore, there will be no school for students.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Cecil County Public Schools, and we look forward to a productive month ahead.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Counseling Highlights
National Counseling Week - February 2-6, 2026
Our counselors guide students through academic challenges, support their social and emotional growth, and help them navigate the moments, big and small, that shape their school experience. They collaborate with families, teachers, and administrators to ensure every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt in every classroom, every hallway, and every student milestone.
Let's celebrate our school counselors this week. Their compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment make our schools stronger, kinder, and more connected. We are grateful for all they do for our students and our community.

A "Thank You" to the Crew at the new North East Middle/High School
A project as significant as the new North East Middle/High School requires an incredible amount of teamwork. Recently, Hess Construction showed their gratitude for that hard work by hosting an appreciation lunch for every contractor on-site.
Building a school is about more than bricks and mortar—it's about the people dedicated to creating a space for our students to thrive. A huge thank you to Hess Construction for recognizing the crew’s efforts and keeping the team fueled and motivated!
