Hello Dayton Consolidated Families,

It appears we have finally turned a corner! Trees are coming back to life, and the flowers are blooming! What a great time to live in Maine! Our school property was sprayed for ticks this past weekend, but just as we would at home, I always suggest families do a check each evening.

On May 1st, we had over 20 community vendors here representing several job fields. Students asked great questions, tried new things, and engaged in many hands-on exploration activities. It was a truly wonderful experience for all! Have they shared what their favorite part of the morning was?

Also in early May, students celebrated another PBIS paw card challenge with an activity period. They were able to select from several different activities to explore. Some did drumming, while others worked on gardening, and others explored origami. These activities are always a nice way for students to pursue their interests with other students they don't always get to work alongside.

Last week, we welcomed nearly thirty-two new PreK students during our PreK Screening as we prepare to open a second PreK classroom beginning in the fall of 2026. It is always wonderful to meet new faces and enjoy getting to know our future Panthers.

We have several upcoming events as we close out the year. Please be sure to stay tuned to our Thursday newsletter, classroom newsletters, and our school Facebook page.

If at any time I may be of help, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Sincerely,

Kim Sampietro, Principal

Coming this Fall: Bell-to-Bell Cell Phone Ban Coming this Fall: Bell-to-Bell Cell Phone Ban

Beginning August 1, 2026, all public schools across Maine must adopt and enforce a new “bell-to-bell” cell phone policy in accordance with recently updated state law (LD 2212 - Committee Amendment A; Part GG). This means students in grades K–12 will be required to keep personal devices, including cell phones, smart watches, and other devices with internet or cellular capabilities, stored away for the entire school day–from the first bell to dismissal. The goal of this statewide effort is to reduce distractions, support student mental health, and limit opportunities for cyberbullying during the school day.

As we align with the new state law, we are in the process of finalizing a consistent, district-wide approach. Clear expectations and consistent consequences will be in place to support the new policy, along with limited exceptions as outlined in the law.

We understand that this change may prompt questions, particularly around communication during the school day. Families can be assured that our schools will continue to prioritize student safety and communication. Staff will be available to assist students in contacting home when needed, and coaches and advisors will have systems in place to communicate any last-minute schedule changes.

This new law reflects a growing understanding nationwide that minimizing cell phone use during the school day supports stronger learning environments and healthier social interactions for students. We are committed to implementing this transition thoughtfully and will continue to share updates, including the final policy, procedures and expectations, as we prepare for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for your partnership as we take this important step together in support of our students’ success.
