Happy November! The Northeast Forage and Grassland Council (NEFGC) annual bus tour took place October 23-25 out to the Bismarck area. We had a great turn out, with some really interesting stops. One being Schaff Angus Valley. Thanks to everyone that came with, and we're looking forward to next year!

Climate-ready Woodlands: Rewilding your backyard woods Climate-ready Woodlands: Rewilding your backyard woods

Join Anna Stockstad, UMN Extension Educator in Forest Ecosystem Health, to learn about climate adaptation strategies that you can use to improve the health and resilience of your woodland, whether you care for 1 acre or 200 acres.

This talk will feature the Extension Forestry program Climate-Ready Woodlands, which includes a robust toolbox of regionally-specific lists of native trees and plants that are predicted to be climate-resilient and provide benefits to small critters (pollinators, birds, small mammals, and other insects), as well as lists of potentially vulnerable tree species to consider for climate refugia.

By providing diverse climate adaptation options, Extension Forestry hopes that Minnesota's woodland stewards will feel empowered to adapt their woods to a changing climate in a way that fits their goals and values.

Please fill out this form if you would have a need for a large scale (commercial sized) canning equipment to help make your canning more efficient. Large scale would be 100 or more pints a season.

Agritourism Safety Agritourism Safety

zoom_out_map

Agritourism continues to grow in popularity, with over 70 million people visiting farms each year – and almost 24 million of these visitors are children. While some visitors are buying fresh produce, others are learning about where their food comes from. Still others visit agritourism operations to have fun: enjoying a hay ride, walking through a corn maze or choosing the perfect pumpkin to carve or decorate.

Whatever the reason for the visit, it is up to the farmers who invite visitors onto their farms to ensure the safety and health of their visitors. Implementing appropriate safety strategies can help reduce visitor injuries and illnesses, potentially reducing liability. The safeagritourism.org website provides the tools and resources farmers need to help keep their visitors safe. The website provides walkthroughs, checklists and resources to implement safety best practices.

Another great resource on this topic is the UMASH (Upper Midwest Agriculture Safety and Health Center) website which has downloadable safety posters, training videos and workshops available for no cost.
