Reminders & Updates for NHS Students, Parents, & Community
Principal's Note 10/04/2026
Wildcat Families,
As we move through the middle of the first quarter, this is an important time to remain connected, informed, and attentive to our students’ progress. Please take time to review your student’s grades and attendance regularly and communicate with teachers and school staff early when questions or concerns arise. Attendance matters every day and in every class, and consistent participation is essential to student success.
We especially ask families to pay close attention to 3rd period attendance, as this period also includes lunch. Students are expected to report to class and follow their assigned lunch schedule so that instructional time is protected and attendance records remain accurate.
Our work is a partnership. Families, students, teachers, support staff, and administrators all play an important role in ensuring that Northwestern remains a place where teaching and learning can thrive. Maintaining a safe, orderly, and respectful Den is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your continued support in reinforcing expectations around attendance, punctuality, behavior, and academic progress.
As we continue through the first quarter, I encourage every family to stay engaged, communicate early, and help us ensure that every Wildcat is present, prepared, and positioned for success.
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to Northwestern High School.
One Den. One Purpose. Forward Together. 🐾

Familias Wildcats:
Avanzamos juntos 🐾

Wildcats Around the Den & Beyond!
SGA in Action: Taking Care of The Den
Our Student Government Association (SGA) is encouraging Wildcats to take an active role in keeping our school restrooms safe, clean, and usable for everyone.
Through SGA’s new bathroom awareness campaign, students can use the QR code posted throughout the school to quickly report concerns such as trash, missing soap or supplies, sink issues, or broken fixtures. This gives students a direct way to help us identify concerns and respond more efficiently.
Keeping The Den in good condition takes all of us. We appreciate our SGA for promoting shared responsibility and pride in our school community.
Do Your Part. Take Care of The Den. 🐾
Wildcat Spotlight: Creativity Meets Innovation
We are proud to celebrate Jeslin Velasquez, who has been accepted into the Creative Intelligence: Art + AI Program, a paid opportunity that begins while she is still a student at Northwestern High School!
Through this specialized program, Jeslin will have the opportunity to strengthen her creative, technical, and professional skills while exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and the arts. The experience is designed to support participants’ academic growth, career exploration, and preparation for future opportunities.
Congratulations, Jeslin, for taking advantage of an opportunity that allows you to learn, create, and build toward your future. Wildcat Pride!
Wildcat Pride in the Community! 🐾
The Northwestern High School Marching Wildcats are making their mark beyond The Den!
Under the direction of Mr. Renberg, our Marching Wildcats earned First Place in Cheverly’s 95th Anniversary Parade on September 26, 2026.
What makes this accomplishment even more special is the dedication behind it. After performing at the Wildcats football game the night before, our students were back early the next morning, ready to perform, represent Northwestern, and bring incredible energy to the Cheverly community.
And the community noticed! Spectators and parade organizers praised not only the band’s musicianship, but also their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and encouragement of fellow participants throughout the parade.
This is Wildcat Pride in action, talent, discipline, character, and community spirit.
Congratulations to Mr. Renberg and our Marching Wildcats for representing Northwestern with excellence and showing everyone what it means to be a Wildcat!
First Place looks good on the Den! 🐾💙
Arts in Our Schools: Exploring College Pathways
We celebrated Arts in Our Schools Week with our 3rd Annual Arts College Fair, giving students the opportunity to explore pathways beyond high school in the visual and performing arts.
The event connected students with colleges, universities, and arts programs while highlighting the many ways creativity can lead to future academic and career opportunities.
We are proud to continue creating spaces where our students can discover, create, connect, and envision what is possible through the arts. Wildcat creativity and curiosity were on full display!
Latin Excelencia: Celebrating Culture in the Den
Our Latin Excelencia Hispanic Heritage Celebration brought together the Arts, ELD, World Languages, families, and community partners for a vibrant celebration of culture, diversity, and community in The Den.
Through music, performances, language, traditions, and shared experiences, our students and families had the opportunity to celebrate the richness of Hispanic heritage while strengthening the connections that make Northwestern such a diverse and dynamic school community.
A special thank you to the Jim Henson Academy of Visual & Performing Arts at Northwestern High School for coordinating and hosting this meaningful celebration, and to all of our staff, students, families, and community partners who helped bring the event to life.
This is what community looks like in The Den!
