Owl Families,

Educator Appreciation Week (May 5th - May 9th) is almost here! If there’s a teacher, staff member, or anyone at Riverside School who has gone above and beyond to support your child, please take a moment to share your gratitude! Simply fill out our short form (LINKED HERE), and we’ll pass your messages along to the educators. Your words of appreciation not only lift spirits but also remind our team of the positive impact they have on our community.

We also are thrilled to celebrate the Dowe family as our Owl Supporter for the month of April. The Dowe family has been such an amazing support to Riverside. They have graciously donated snacks, fun holiday games, and classroom materials. They have even donated funds so scholars could attend a field trip. They are always so supportive of classroom goals and we are beyond grateful for their ongoing active participation and kindness!

As the season changes, spring allergies are on the rise. Now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment with your primary provider to discuss medication options and get personalized suggestions to manage your symptoms effectively.

Additionally, it's important to ensure your immunizations are up to date. Staying current with your vaccinations helps protect you and those around you from preventable diseases.

A kind reminder: Mrs. Upperman cannot administer medications without a proper order. While inhalers can be self-carried, an order must be on file; otherwise, we are required to confiscate the inhaler.

If you haven't completed your Integrated Health Plan registration yet, please contact Mrs. Upperman for an explanation and to obtain the correct form.

Stay healthy and enjoy the spring season!

  1. If you are dropping off or picking up your scholar(s) via the car line you MUST enter the line by driving down Montrose Avenue and turning left to go up along the front side of the school. Please do NOT cut across from Glencliffe to Montrose. Cutting across can back up the buses. It is also unfair to the families who are abiding by the rules and it sets a negative example for our scholars. Everyone's time is valuable and we appreciate your attention to this matter.
  2. Whenever you are driving near Riverside please be sure to obey all traffic laws. This includes but is not limited to driving within the posted speed limit, only parking in appropriate spots, and following the one-way signs. Please also refrain from blocking our neighbors' driveways and throwing trash out of vehicles. After all, we want to be good neighbors.
  3. School officially ends each day at 4:05PM. All scholars need to be picked up by 4:15PM. Any parent/guardian picking up their scholar(s) after 4:15PM will need to come into the office to sign them out. If you are running late, please be sure to call and let us know. You can call the main office number at 216-838-6700.
  4. The Glencliffe side of the building is ONLY for buses and vans. Scholars cannot be dropped off or picked up by families on the Glencliffe side of the building.
  5. Each day our playground is closed from 3:50PM to 4:15PM. We absolutely love that so many families want to stay after and play. We just ask that you give us this time to ensure every child has been safely dismissed.
  6. Please note that the playground is also closed in the morning. When the scholars arrive, they need to get right into the morning line.
  7. As a courtesy to our neighbors, please be mindful of the volume of your music while you are waiting in the car line. Thank you.

  • Please call the office (216-838-6700) if your child will not be at school.
  • A student is considered Tardy to School if they arrive within 15 minutes after the start of the 1st period for K-8 schools. For Riverside, this is 9:50 AM. During this grace period, students will be marked as Tardy in their attendance record.
  • After the 15-minute grace period, the student's arrival will be coded as Excused or Unexcused based on the reason for their late arrival. The appropriate codes include:
    • MAP, Personal Illness, Family Illness, etc.: when the late arrival is Excused. Minutes will count toward chronic absenteeism.
    • VUX (Verified Unexcused): when the late arrival is Unexcused. Minutes will accumulate toward truancy.
  • Scholars will not be released early from school without the office receiving communication and consent from a family member in advance. We also ask that scholars are not picked up between 3:00PM - 4:05PM. This is to support our preparations for dismissal.
