Brighton School 26/27

SeptemberNewsletterBrighton School 26/27

Brighton families,

It was so nice to see you all at Open House! Thank you for your patience with the school photo delays in the gym. If your child was not able to get pictures taken at Open House, there will be an opportunity for retakes on September 15th.

Having the students back in the building is so refreshing. It is clear that the summer sunshine made our Stars grow. They came back taller and more mature; the staff and I are excited to keep stretching their growth with academics!

Over the past two weeks, the students, staff, buses, and after-school care have made the transition back to school routines. As with any transition, there are a few bumps in the road, but those little bumps help us fine-tune our processes to be more efficient long-term. Your assistance in familiarizing yourself with drop-off and pick-up routines has been appreciated.

The staff and I are looking forward to making this school year the best one yet with learning and growth! As we begin the school year, classroom teachers and building staff will be working on establishing procedures with all students and getting into instructional routines. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher or myself.

Respectfully,

Carrie Reid

Attendance Matters

Did you know that every year, one in ten kindergarten and 1st-grade students misses a month of school with excused and unexcused absences? By middle and high school, the rates of chronic absence are far higher. Research shows that starting in kindergarten, these absences negatively affect academic achievement.

Chronic absences can leave children unable to read, comprehend, and apply these skills to further their knowledge to the greatest extent possible by the end of 3rd grade, exacerbating the achievement gap. Chronic absences set a pattern of poor attendance and academic failure for older students, fueling the dropout rate.

Last school year, 27% of the Brighton student population missed 5 days of school or less! Let's try to increase that percentage for the 26/27 school year. Family and school partnerships are crucial in helping our children achieve success by being in school on time each and every day. These good habits will follow them throughout their lives.

Early Release

October 2nd is our first early release day. Student dismissal begins at 11:30 am. Please mark your calendars.

Have a great weekend! Have a great weekend!
