Principal's Message Principal's Message

As you may have read in recent newsletters, it is scheduling season. Our school counselor, Mrs. Todd, and assistant principal, Mrs. Jinks, have been connecting with our students about scheduling classes for next year. At the middle school level, there are not a ton of choice options for students, but there are some. They will have some choice on what related arts and electives they take.

Mrs. Todd and Mrs. Jinks met with all of the 6th and 7th graders over the past few weeks. Your child has hopefully brought home a form (see below) to discuss their related arts and elective options with you. These forms have been turned in and students have recorded their requests into a google form. If you haven't already had a conversation with your child about this, some questions that you could consider are:

  • What electives did you signed up for?
  • Why did you pick that class?
  • What classes are you enjoying this year? Why do you enjoy those classes?
  • Are there any classes that you are not enjoying this year? Why do you think that is?

We really try to refrain from making schedule changes in August so it is important that these requests reflect the students' interests.

Important UPDATES Important UPDATES

For 8th Grade Students

  • We are excited to announce that we have a field trip opportunity to the Delaware Area Career Center on Thursday, March 13th! This is a great opportunity for our 8th grade students who are interested in pursuing various career pathways within their high school career, thus preparing them for life after high school graduation. Students who are interested must submit this Google form as well as a permission slip that Mrs. Todd will provide them starting February 24th. The permission slip will contain the full agenda of the day and additional details of the visit, but students can expect to depart from Worthingway around 10:45am and return to school by 2:00pm. Additionally, students will also need to pack their own lunch and can work with Mrs. Todd for accommodations on this as well. Spaces for this trip are limited so we ask that you please have your student fill out the Google interest form as soon as possible (please only submit the form once.)

  • Feel free to explore the DACC's website and let Mrs. Todd know if you have any questions at ctodd@wscloud.org .

Absences
  • The flu season has been pretty rough this year. Thank you for notifying our office of absences with your child. When your child is absent, they can check Schoology (if they are able) from their chromebook to see what they are missing. They can also email their teacher to communicate their absence and find out what they can do when they are out (again, if they are able).

Pick Up and Drop Off Pick Up and Drop Off

Students that are dropped off or picked up by car will enter via our main office entrance (Rieber Street). Buses will drop off and and pick up at our 6th grade entrance (Guyer Street side). Important notes:

  • Student Safety is our top priority. Please be mindful of our walkers and bike riders (we have bike racks on our bus drop off side). If you exit on the Guyer Street side, please yield to crossing students AND incoming buses.
  • Doors open at 8:50 for student drop off. Students will be instructed to remain in the cafeteria or gym until 9:02. Classes begin at 9:10 and end at 3:50.
  • We ask families to pull all the way forward to the end of our main lot at pick up time. Cars that stop at the front doors can create backups that extend onto Rieber St.
  • There should be no cars in the bus drop off lanes during both drop off and pick up.
