Fall is officially upon us, and this time of year always seems to fly by as we move toward the holidays! We hope everyone enjoyed a safe and restful Fall Break and is ready for a busy few weeks ahead.

We have a lot happening this month! October is Bullying Prevention Month, and we’ll also be celebrating Red Ribbon Week soon — watch for details about activities and dress-up days coming later this week.

Our 6th Grade Level Up Challenge will also be launching soon as we continue helping students focus on positive choices, responsibility, and showing true Miner Pride.

In athletics, our Middle School Football Team will wrap up their season this week with their final game on Tuesday at Holdenville (please note the schedule change — it will not be played on Monday). Basketball season is just around the corner, with games starting in November!

🎉 Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council and Class Officers! Election results were emailed to the student body last week. We’re proud of all our students who stepped up to run and look forward to seeing our new student leaders in action.

Finally, a big thank-you to everyone who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences last Wednesday. If you weren’t able to make it and have questions about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teachers — communication is key to success.

Let’s make the most of this busy and exciting season together. Go Miners!

— Mrs. Green, Principal

Classroom Expectations

These are our school-wide expectations for our students. Positive behavior fosters an environment where ALL students can learn and grow. It is our hope that our HMS families will discuss our school-wide behavior expectations and encourage positive behaviors at school and home.

Common Areas Expectations

Our school-wide expectations extend beyond the classroom. It is important that students also realize they are accountable for their behaviors in the hallway, cafeteria and at all school sponsored activities on and off campus.

Tips for a Successful School Year Tips for a Successful School Year

To help you start strong, here are a few simple ways to set yourself up for success:

  • Be organized: Use your planner daily to keep track of assignments, projects, and important dates.

  • Ask for Help Early: If something doesn’t make sense, don’t wait until you’re behind — talk to your teacher or counselor right away.
  • Use Your Time Wisely: Stay focused during class, and finish your homework daily.
  • Be present: Attendance matters! Being here every day helps you keep up and feel confident.
  • Get involved: Join a club, sport, or activity to make friends and try new things.

  • Be respectful: Kindness and good behavior make our school a great place to learn. A good attitude goes a long way!

  • Rest Well: Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep — and put those phones away at night so you’re ready to learn each morning!

LOCKER TIPS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR LOCKER TIPS FOR A SMOOTH YEAR

Lockers are a middle school tradition—but they can be tricky at first!

  • Don’t overstuff it – Only keep what you need for the day.

  • Use shelves or organizers to make extra space.

  • Practice your combination until it’s second nature.

  • Avoid storing food—trust me, it will start to smell!

  • Do a weekly clean-out so you can always find what you need.
