Season’s Greetings, Jefferson Families and Friends:

My staff and I would like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas (a little early) as we get ready to end another semester. When we come back from break on the 28th, we will have 17 school days until Christmas Break (December 20-last day of the semester for students). It will go pretty quickly.

MAPS TESTING

We will have MAPS testing in December. We need your help to explain the importance of the test to our students and ensure they try their hardest and are well prepared with good sleeping habits and good nutrition. Make sure your children are fed and are getting enough sleep each night. This helps tremendously.

PTO MOVIE NIGHT & SCHOOL STORE

We have a movie night coming up next Friday, December 2. It is sponsored by our PTO. We have some information coming home about that event on Monday. The PTO Will once again be hosting the School Holiday Store for students to do some shopping. We will have more information coming home for that event soon.

WINTER WEATHER

We have had several families contact us in regards to the cold. It is District policy that when the temperature is 15* or higher, we do go outside, including Walking Club in the morning. If you are wanting your student to stay in due to the cold, we would need a doctor’s note allowing that. I have noticed in the mornings that we have had some students coming to school in just shorts and tee shirts, even when the temperature was below 40*. We have had other students just show up in a hoodie for a coat. It is important that your students come to school dressed for the weather. The best way is to dress in layers. In Nebraska, we can see a 40* or more change in temperature from morning to midafternoon. If you need assistance with a coat or other winter apparel, please reach out to us.

WALKING CLUB

As I stated, if it is 15* or higher we are outside for the Walking Club. I have supervision beginning at 7:30am for the Walking Club, not before. Kindergarten and First Grade students come inside at the first bell, 7:45am, to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. All Second Grade through Fifth Grade students remain outside until the second bell, 7:55am, when they line up to come inside to their classrooms. Students are counted tardy after the 8:05am bell. If you are concerned about the weather or the cold, you can drop your students off between 7:55am and 8:05am at the front of the school on 3rd Street. After 8:05am, all students arriving at school must report to the office to check in. Preschool students go directly to their classroom upon arrival.

Once again, we would like to extend a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays to all of our Jefferson families. We hope that your time with family is special and filled with fun. Enjoy!

PBIS PBIS

Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support Team is working hard to make sure students understand the expectations and safety rules at Jefferson. Here are some things to discuss with your child. Voice levels in the school building= level 0 is silent, level 1 is a whisper voice, level 2 is partner talking, level 3 is a presenting voice, and level 4 is used outside while playing. Please also remind students that when there is snow on the ground they must have snow boots to play in the snow- picking it up can lead to safety concerns, so we just leave it on the ground. We appreciate all of our parents and the support they provide their child and the school!
