CAVALIER Chronicle
WELCOME TO THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR

It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!
Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!
We hope that you have been able to enjoy the cool mornings this weekend!
We only have two weeks left in this marking period! Next week, all students will take a benchmark test in Math, Science, and English Language Arts. 8th graders will also take one in Social Studies (6th and 7th grade have different assessments that they take each unit). These tests will help teachers see how students are progressing in their core content classes in order to plan for future lessons. Please encourage your student to do their best each day and to show what they know on the assessments next week.
Our counselors will begin their lunch groups this Wednesday. There is a permission slip and more information in the Counselors' Corner section below. Middle school is a difficult age and we want to provide support for our students in a variety of ways--lunch groups are just one of those options.
We will host a Hispanic Heritage Night Family Event next Thursday, October 10th. We hope that you will be able to join us (see flyer below)! We also will have a spirit week next week and we encourage all of our students to participate as much as they can.
We are currently doing a pre-sale for a Cavalier spirit shirt (see image below). Each Friday is a Cavalier Spirit day for staff and we would love to see our students showing their CAV pride as well. You can use the QR code or click the image and it will take you to our online store. If you put your child's name(s) in all of the required fields, we will get the shirt(s) to them as soon as they come in. Monday is the last day to order shirts!
We are looking forward to a Cav-tastic week with your students!

Transportation
Bus Route information was made available to parents/guardians via Home Access Center last week for those who are eligible and requested transportation.
Expect transportation delays the first few days of the school year. However, Killeen ISD provides the Edulog Parent Portal Lite smartphone app to help you receive information about your student's bus ride. The app allows you to see real-time information about the location of your student's bus and will alert you when the bus is getting close to the bus stop.
Arrival and Dismissal
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Map for Cars and Buses
Please notice the drop off and pick up areas for cars at CPMS. For the safety of our students, please do not drop off in the bus loop.
Parents/Guardians should only be driving in the yellow area indicated on the map.
The red area is for buses only. Parents who enter the red area are putting students and staff at risk as there is limited visibility when buses are present.
We appreciate your support in enforcing the KISD Student Code of Conduct!
Student Code of Conduct cards were sent home this past week. Please make sure that you have read over the SCOC so that you know the expectations for behavior.
Student Code of Conduct Updates
Electronic Devices and Pouches – Secondary students will maintain their phone, and all communication devices, in a locked pouch during the school day.
E-cigarettes/Cigarettes
1st Offense Violation:
Students will be assigned one day of ISS and one day of Saturday School. Secondary Students will attend at their home campuses (the curriculum will be provided for all students who attend for cigarette/e-cigarette violations).
If the student fails to attend ISS, Saturday Detention and/or complete the lessons, a due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 10 days. Students will be allowed one make up opportunity to complete Saturday Detention.
2nd Offense Violation:
A due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 20 days.
Consequences for School Bus Violations:
For school bus safety violations, and for serious violations, as defined in this document, that happen on the bus, the 3rd bus offense shall invoke at least a temporary removal (possibly a permanent removal), and the 4th offense will invoke a bus suspension for the rest of the school year. For students attending a DAEP, the 2nd bus offense will result in permanent bus suspension for the time the student is placed in DAEP; any flagrant bus offense prior to the 2nd violation may result in immediate bus suspension. Students who fight on the bus will be suspended for three days. If after a thorough investigation, fighting is confirmed, then the students involved will be removed from the bus for 30 school days. Under severe circumstances the Director for Transportation Services reserves the right to implement temporary or permanent bus suspension at a date earlier than prescribed by this regulation.
