McClure Family Newsletter
January 16, 2026
Hello Maverick Families,
As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor Dr. King’s legacy of justice, compassion, and service. At McClure, we strive to carry forward these values each day—encouraging students to speak up with kindness, stand up for one another, and help create a more inclusive world. We hope your long weekend offers time for reflection, conversation, and connection as we celebrate Dr. King’s life and the impact he continues to have on all of us.

Upcoming Sexual Health Lessons
As an important piece of our grade 5-12 curriculum, SPS implements a series of Sexual Health lessons. For 8th grade, we will begin our sexual health education lessons during the week of February 9th. It is a sequence of 6 lessons in science class. Preview the Sexual Health Lessons.
Lessons for 6th and 7th grade will also occur in February. Dates will be messaged soon.
This curriculum is age and developmentally aligned, culturally responsive, and medically accurate. It encourages parent/child communication and promotes students’ health and safety. If you have any questions about the curriculum you can contact the District Health Education Office: Kai Kunkel, 206-252-0988 (grade 5), Lisa Davidson, 206-252-0859 (middle school) or Lisa Love, 206-252-0982 (high school). If you wish for your student to be opted out of one or multiple of the lessons, please contact me.
Your student may come home with questions or wish to discuss these topics further with you. This is a private communication for the family. Your student will never be asked to share these conversations. The objective is to affirm that parents and guardians are the primary teachers for these important topics. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you!

Evening Event Reminders
This messaging is for all families that have students with Care Plans or emergency medications at school with regards to the upcoming Talent Show next Tuesday evening. I want to make sure your students are supported if they plan to attend. Standards for safe medication administration and accommodations do not change when students participate in field trips or school sponsored events. This is why we have permission slips, so I know who's in attendance and can ensure staff is adequately trained and has access to medications. Please let me know if your student will be attending. Thanks!
