We are paid by the pound for each pound of shoes, clothing, belts, purses, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys and stuffed animals placed in our bin. AVID News AVID News

Interested in Plano East AVID?

All Students Interested in the Plano East AVID Program, remember applications are due by January 30. Please give to Ms. Gaines in B113 to send to Plano East.

Every year in AVID one of our most impacting components of the program is having guest speakers share about their profession. McMillen AVID students are always thinking about college majors, and they love exposure to as many as possible. That's where guest speakers help the most. Whether you own a business, are in the medical profession, the world of transportation, hospitality, engineering, law, human relations, trade professions…we would love to schedule you to speak to our students. They are always interested and have an abundance of questions. If you would be willing to come share your profession with us, or if you know someone who would like to come be a guest speaker in our AVID classes, please contact Sherika Gaines, our AVID Coordinator, at sherika.gaines@pisd.edu with questions. You may click the Google Form or scan the QR code on the flyer. Please consider sharing what you do with our students! We look forward to hearing from you.

Choir News Choir News

Good morning! We have had an exciting few days for our choir community here on the East Side! Sound Invention from Plano East Choir was selected to sing at the National "Jazz Educators Network" Convention on Thursday, January 8th in New Orleans. Only two high schools out of the entire nation were selected to perform, and this is the first Plano ISD ensemble to ever be invited. 15 out of the 18 singers went through McMillen!

I had the privilege of chaperoning their trip to New Orleans and let me tell you--- they were INCREDIBLE!!! Here's an audio and video recording of their performance:

That's not all!!! As soon as we returned from New Orleans late Friday night, seven Plano East Singers auditioned at the last round of Texas All State Auditions on Saturday, January 10th. McMillen alumni, Phoebe Smith and Julian Malone placed in a 2026 Texas All State Choir!!

Phoebe Smith, 1st chair Mixed Choir Soprano

Julian Malone, 7th chair Tenor-Bass Choir

This is not an easy task-- most of our students go to a camp over the summer to prep the music, and then they have to get through 4 rounds of auditions. Going against students from Plano, Allen, Wylie, Sherman, Dallas and Lewisville. We are so proud of them!
