Peek at the Week

This week we are focusing on short vowels, complex blends and digraphs combined.

We are also working on drawing conclusions and inferring as we read and analyze text/photographs. We are practicing these strategies during our read alouds and our chapter book that we have started. We are reading, “Magic Tree House Dinosaurs Before Dark”

We have also been tracking and working heavily on our high frequency words or "heart" words as some students will refer to them as. These are the words we should recognize by sight and read them fluently. The goal at the end of the year is to have all 41 words read fluently by sight. If you need another copy of the high frequency words please let me know and I can send one home with your child.

In math we are going to focus on money. We are working on identifying what each coin is, how much they are worth, and even adding some small coin values together.

We are focusing on the skill of curiosity and problem solving when we need to figure something out with our peers or adults around us.

We are going into animals and plants. What do animals and plants need? How do they get it? What happens if they don't?

We will be planting seeds and observing where they grow best and what they need to continue to thrive.

Nonfiction genre writing: We will be researching an animal and providing information through pictures, labels, and sentences to support the research we have done.

Each student has picked an animal to learn about and record information. They will be turning this into writing through pictures, labels, and sentences.
