April Chit-Chat

It is very possible that PCSD #1 will not have school on Monday, April 27. This is because we have not needed to use a snow day (bad weather day). Unless a bad weather day occurs between now and April 24 that results in canceling school, there will be no school on April 27.

Tomorrow, April 8, is our second annual PCSD #1 Kids Chorus School Tour, featuring performances from all three elementary schools.

The PCSD #1 Kids Chorus will perform first at Southside Gym at 1:00 p.m. Students in grades 3–5 are invited to attend, and the performance will last approximately 20 minutes.

Southside Kids Chorus parents are also welcome to attend the 1:00 p.m. performance.

Thanks to our amazing music teachers in our district, along with our equally amazing first-grade teachers, Grandparents Day was once again a huge success. Classrooms were filled with excited grandparents, who later enjoyed a wonderful performance at the Powell High School Auditorium. Congratulations to everyone involved!

The month of April is our state testing month (WYTOPP) and our focus is very appropriate: THIS IS IT!!

IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE, SOUTHSIDE!!

Beginning on April 14 and ending on May 8 is the annual WYTOPP Window (state testing for our students). Please focus on a good nights sleep, good nutrition, and excellent attendance! Our school can't wait to see the improvements in our students over the course of the year! The following are important testing dates for our students, listed by grade level:

• 3rd Grade April 15 and April 23
• 4th Grade April 14, 22, and April 30
• 5th Grade April 16, 21, and April 29

We appreciate your focus on your student's GREAT ATTENDANCE and we hope that you will take some time to talk to your student(s) about the importance of doing their best! KEEP SHINING SOUTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! Go Southside!!

During WYTOPP state testing, it is required that all cell phones and smartwatches are put away and kept out of sight. While cell phones should already be secured in students’ backpacks, we will also ensure that any students who wear smartwatches or similar devices place them in their backpacks during testing times.

We appreciate your understanding and support. Thank you!

For parents picking up students after school, we appreciate your use of the parking lot whenever possible. We understand that some families arrive early and park along the curb beyond the drop-off zone; however, please park in designated parking areas only.

For safety reasons, do your best to not park on the sidewalk near the storage sheds or trash dumpsters, as this creates unsafe conditions and limits visibility of our students.

This year is a very special one for Kindergarten Circus—it’s the 50th Annual Kindergarten Circus!
