Our Centennial Mission

We will:

Empower, challenge, and inspire all students to

learn, achieve and excel socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

What would Google do?

These are the skills that Google places a high emphasis on:

Being a good coach

Communicating and listening well

Possessing insights into others' values and points of view

Having empathy toward and being supportive of colleagues

Being a good critical thinker and creative problem-solver

Making cross-disciplinary connections around complex ideas; and

Articulating a clear vision

Our vision for Centennial Elementary is to:

Support all students to achieve at high levels socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually by collaboratively using data to inform our decision making.

Dear Staff,

In the midst of chaos [of elementary school], there is opportunity! I’ve had many conversations with you and I continue to be inspired by the different strategies you’re implementing to ensure every student has success. The ongoing conversations you have with families after school is a testament to your commitment to all students and a wonderful example of how we can find opportunities for connection, even on our busiest days. My hope is that we continue to find new and creative ways to connect with our students and each other! In doing so, we are actively discovering the moments of joy that make this work so rewarding!

October is a month that brings a sense of rhythm and focus. We begin to see the progress our students are making due to the strong foundation we’ve built. There’s a lot to look forward to this month, including (but not limited to) parent/teacher conferences, a long weekend, and Trunk or Treat!

This week, we will welcome a few administrators from the District Office as they begin their Instructional Tours. They will be in our building on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 10AM and are looking for evidence of the following:

  • Warm welcome

  • Classroom agreements

  • Welcoming students back to the classroom after recess, lunch, specials, etc

They may also speak with students to gather data regarding these things.

P.S. Thank you for filling up all of the front parking spots and keeping our morning/after school drop off/pick up safe for each and all!

Kind regards,

Shannon

Welcome! Welcome!

Welcome to Lyndsey Shaw. She is Centennial's new cafeteria lead. Welcome Lyndsey!

This week we will dive into Bloomsights. Bloomsights was created by educators, for educators, with a straightforward goal: to help every student feel safe, connected, and supported at school, without adding more to your plate. Take a look at Bloomsights' data before PLTs so that we can maximize our time digging into the four PLC questions.

School Safety / Leaving Campus School Safety / Leaving Campus

If you are leaving campus during your lunch, please be sure to let Misty, Rachel, or Shannon know. Also, if you need to have someone cover your class for any reason so you can leave campus, this must be communicated with Shannon and Misty. There are times where it's necessary to leave school a few minutes early for an end of the day appointment, so please help all of us ensure we are maintaining a safe school environment at all times for all students.

Welcome To Our Volunteer Coordinator Welcome To Our Volunteer Coordinator

Liz Hosch will be joining CES as our Volunteer Coordinator. She is a current CES parent of a 2nd grade student. If you need to reach her, please email her at e.hosch14@gmail.com (staff use only).

Parent / Teacher Conferences Parent / Teacher Conferences

On Wednesday last week you had time to get started getting your Sign-up Genius ready for conferences. Building Leadership Team decided that these emails will be sent on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 4PM. Please be sure to (schedule) send at 4PM and share the Sign-up Genius with Misty, Rachel, and me. If there are any conferences that you'd like Rachel or me to attend for any reason, communicate directly with us. This letter will go out to parents on Monday, September 29.

Absence Management (Formerly Aesop) Absence Management (Formerly Aesop)

If you need to leave the building for any reason during the day, you need to make sure that you are entering the info into Frontline/AESOP. Also, we use building funds to pay staff who cover during their plan time, so even if it’s after the deadline that you can enter a sub, please connect with Misty so she can enter it into Frontline/AESOP. When absences are filled through Frontlines/AESOP, the funding comes from your annual leave (not building funds, which as I’m sure you’ve heard is significantly reduced this year). So, it's better for our minimal building budget!

When the statement is made, "teach to the high?" What does that mean? It means:

  • Establish rigor and pace: The standards provide rigor, critical thinking intellectual routines provide engagement, and you much keep going! (Do not wait for ALL students to get the learning...they will, they don't always show it right away.) Keep going...if too slow, you are creating the learning gap.
  • Differentiate and scaffold the learning: Meet students where they are at with the Tier 1 standard and provide diverse ways for students to reach the learning.
  • Set up SMART goals with students: These goals should be time sensitive and move the learning forward. Foster a growth mindset!
  • Revisit learning: Continually revisit learning while increasing intensity, and continually moving the bar.
  • Check for understanding, monitor thinking, and provide feedback!

Monthly Celebrations Monthly Celebrations

September 15th-October 15th is National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Each year, Americans celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America from September 15 to October 15. September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18.

Cataloging TSD Teacher Materials

TSD is implementing a new barcode system to improve the organization and management of school materials. Each teacher book/manual will be assigned a unique barcode, making it easier to track resources, streamline check-in and check-out, and maintain accurate inventories. This system will reduce loss, increase efficiency, and ensure that materials are available for all staff. Teacher manuals for the following curriculum will be barcoded by the end of this school year:

enVision - Volume 1 & 2 (Grades K-5)

Benchmark - Volume 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 (Grades K-5)

We have worked with ITS as well as Librarians and Media Specialists throughout the district to establish the following timeline for barcode applications.

October - December

Elementary materials - Benchmark and enVision

Building Leadership Team will consult with Rachael A to determine the best times and process for barcoding the teacher materials at Centennial.

ITS Update

Inventory Month

In October, I.T.S. staff will be visiting classrooms to update our technology inventory. Maintaining accurate records is essential for planning equipment upgrades, replacements, and budget needs. Please let your staff know that technicians will be visually checking for technology items, but no equipment will be removed during this process.

Upcoming - October 10th: World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is a reminder that well-being is central to learning and growth for students, staff, and families alike. This year’s theme, “access to services - mental health in catastrophes and emergencies,” emphasizes that everyone deserves access to care, understanding, and supportive environments.

We all play a vital role in creating spaces where students feel safe, valued, and connected. Even small, intentional actions such as giving warm greetings/welcomes at the start of each morning, school day, and class period, starting conversations about stress management, building in mindful moments during the day, or reminding families of available resources can make a meaningful difference.

Ideas and activities to share with your learning community:

  • Share these TSD mental health resources and these TSD well-being resources with families and educators. If you have specific needs, please contact your student’s school counselor.

  • Staff can visit the TSD Employee Assistant Program page.

  • Remind staff, families, and students that open conversations about emotions help reduce stigma.

  • Highlight daily practices that encourage mental and physical well-being such as these families activities from TSD Student Success:

    • Physical_Activity_Recomendations_for_Different_Age

    • Family Conversation Starters for Social Emotional Learning
