The countdown is on! As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2025-26 school year, we’re more energized than ever to Connect, Learn, and Lead alongside our #MaizeFamily. Whether it’s in classrooms or labs; on playgrounds, fields, courts, or stages; or through the partnerships we build with families like yours; everything we do is centered around #266Success for each student. We can’t wait to begin this next chapter together. Please explore this back-to-school edition of Maize Pulse to help get ready for the first day of school!

To kick things off, join us on our Maize USD 266 Facebook page, where we soon will count down to the first day of school. We invite you to help us spread the excitement!

We also invite you to a couple of our favorite annual summer events:

  • Fill the Bus, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Chick-fil-A, 10515 W. 21 St. North in Wichita. Donate school supplies for our students in need in exchange for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich! Please read more in an expanded article below.
  • Super Story Time, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 at MOXI Junction, 319 S. Park Ave. in Maize. The event is free, and I can’t wait to read a couple of children’s books and connect with families. It’s the perfect way to celebrate reading and community before school starts.

School supply lists available for back-to-school prep

Elementary, intermediate, and middle school grade levels have a list of school supplies that need to be provided by the student's family at the beginning of the school year. Click here to explore the lists based on the student's school and/or grade.

High school students will receive information from their teachers about what supplies they will need to provide when they arrive on the first day of school. School board approves policy and handbook updates for 2025-26

During the July regular meeting, the Maize Board of Education approved updates to district policies and handbooks for the 2025-26 school year. Below are a few key changes. You can view all approved policies and handbooks on the BoardDocs portal.

  • Student residency update: Students in good standing in grades 5th through 12th who move outside the district or between Maize USD 266 boundary lines may now continue to attend their current school.
  • Proof of residency for enrollment: To improve the accuracy and accountability of enrollment records, families must now provide two different acceptable documents as proof of residency. The list of acceptable documents has been updated.
  • Student attendance: Principals now have more flexibility to approve medically exempt absences. One doctor’s note may be used to excuse both the student and siblings in the same household for the duration of an illness.
  • Classroom observations: Parents must provide at least 24 hours of notice to request to observe their child during the school day. All observations must be approved by the building administrator or designee.
  • Bus Conduct Policy: To better align consequences between schools and buses, the previous list of specific bus behavior disciplinary steps has been removed. Bus conduct consequences will now align with those used for school behavior for consistency.

Maize Board of Education approves new Enrollment Center

The Maize Board of Education on July 14 approved the construction of a new Enrollment Center to better serve families across our growing district in a more welcoming, appropriately sized space.

The new building will be located south of the Maize Educational Support Center (905 W. Academy Ave.) and east of the Maize Performing Arts and Aquatics Center (1155 W. Academy Ave.) in Maize. Funded through the district’s Capital Outlay budget, the Enrollment Center will provide a more accessible and efficient experience for student enrollment. Construction will begin soon and take about a year to complete.

In addition to supporting families during the enrollment process, the new building will also add much-needed space for our district Food Service department, including increased cold and dry storage and a loading dock, which will allow bulk food purchases for cost savings.

And finally, the new building will also increase district meeting spaces in which all departments and schools can access.
