Thank you so much for helping us celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week this week. Our teachers enjoyed the sweet notes and treats as they were honored this week. We are so blessed to have the support of our Walker parents, grandparents, and friends. Our teachers ended the week feeling very loved. I can't believe we are already in the second week of May. We have 14 school days remaining. Our last day of school is May 27th due to adding one snow day to the calendar. We are working hard to finish strong. These last days are filled with assessments and special activities and celebrations. Please make sure your child attends each school each day so that they do not miss out on our end-of-the-year assessments or activities.

Here is a quick summary of what’s included in this week's newsletter:

• We are having the "Buy One, Get One Free" Scholastic Book Fair all week in the Library, May 10th-14th.

• Each Friday until the end of the year we will be having "Fun Friday Dress-Up Days", the theme for each Friday's dress-up day is listed below. This Friday, May 7th will be a “Neon Madness” dress-up. Students can dress up with bright Neon Colors.

• Friday, May 14th at 7:00 pm is our Walker Family Night at the Naturals Baseball Game. Tickets can be purchased from Walker. This is also a fundraising event for our music program because of our partnership with the Naturals.

• If you have a child that you need to enroll in kindergarten, please see the information below in this newsletter explaining what you will need to do or call our school office for help at 479-750-8874.

• If you have a child that you need to enroll in pre-k, please see the information below in this newsletter explaining what you will need to do or call our Springdale Pre-K Center for help at 479-750-8889.

• We are so excited to have planned in-person celebrations for kindergarten, 5th grade, the Senior Walk, and the National Elementary Honor Society. The dates and details for these events can be found below. Guidelines for indoor and outdoor have been provided by the Arkansas Department of Health and will be followed to keep our students and families safe.

You can either send money or check made out to Walker, or set up an eWallet account at scholastic.com/fair. You can set up spending limits and what isn’t spent goes back to your account! PLAY BALL! I am excited that Friday, May 14th is going to be

Walker Elementary night at The Northwest Arkansas Naturals

Baseball Game. We would like for all ( K-5 ) Walker Family and

Friends who can to come out and join us. 4th and 5th grade will be

featured singing the National Anthem on the Videoboard. This will

be pre-recorded at the school so they don’t have to sing at the actual

game. They will be playing the Tulsa Drillers. Major League Baseball

mandates that all fans wear a mask, except when eating or drinking. This is

also a Fireworks night, so plan to stay and enjoy them.

This is a fundraiser for the music program here at Walker. Even if

you cannot make it, feel free to ask those you know if they would like to buy

a ticket. We don’t get the money unless tickets are bought through us. For

each ticket, we get $3 and if we sell 200+ we get $4.50. All the tickets are

seated together as best as possible during this time of distancing.

The sales sheet for tickets is on the back of the letter that will go home with students on Friday. I need this sales sheet and the money by Monday, May 3rd. Cash and checks are

accepted. Please make checks out to Walker Elementary and memo it with

NWA Naturals. Remember even if you are not coming to game you can still

sell tickets. We will get them back to you to pass out to those you sold to by

the Wednesday, May 12th before the game.

We can't wait to see our new kindergarten students join our Walker family next school year! Do you need to register your child for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year? To register your child, go to www.sdale.org and click on ENROLL NOW or you can come to Walker for a face to face enrollment opportunity on Monday, April 12th from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Our office team will be ready to assist you to ensure your child is completely registered. Please bring the following documents: 1. A birth certificate; a statement by the local registrar or a county recorder certifying your child’s date of birth; an attested baptismal certificate; a passport; an affidavit of the date and place of birth by the child’s parent or guardian; previous school records, or; United States military identification 2. Social security number, if available. 3. Immunization records. Your child must be up to date with all of their kindergarten shots before August 2021. 4. Each student may have up to three guests attend their celebration. This year we will have celebrations by class instead of the entire grade in order to socially distance families. Parents/guests will need to wear a mask while attending and social distance during the entire event. Chairs will be set up to allow for social distancing while families will sit together in groups of three.

All Arkansas Department of Health guidelines will be followed. In order to attend, guests must be healthy and not have any of the following symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, or have a loss of taste or smell). ADH states that guests may not attend if they have been exposed to Covid 19 in the last 14 days. ADH states that guests who are older than 65 years of age or who have an underlying health condition may wish to refrain from attending. More information about each group's celebration will be shared with the families of the students being celebrated.

Mrs.Anita interviewed Carlnis Jerry who is the Director for MEI or Marshallese Educational Inititiatives. Join us as we talk about some of M.E.I.'s programs that will be offered this summer for Marshallese youths.

A program emphasizing culture and leadership. This program will have a parenting component as well. We talk about how she mentors students as she goes out to the schools and reads with them. Some of their staff members help students with FAFSA and college enrollment.
