Hello, Mitchell Community,
We had an amazing week with our students! We enjoyed the fun events of our rivalry contest and all of the classroom doors were amazing! We couldn't believe the work that our students put into this fun activity.
Yearbooks are on sale now!

Two Spots Open at College Mentors for Kids
We have had two new openings for College Mentors for Kids. This free afterschool initiative pairs each child with a trained college student mentor, offering weekly hands-on activities with themes such as higher education and careers, culture and diversity, and community service. This occurs on Mondays afterschool until 6:15 PM. For more details, please visit https://collegementors.org/
To enroll, https://members.collegementors.org/PermissionPacket
Picture Retakes are December 8
If you are in need of a retake and ordered pictures, then send in your picture order on this day and a new picture will be taken and the original order will be replaced and delivered. Please make sure you communicate with your child's teacher if they are in need of a retake. You are also welcome to send a note to your child's teacher or in with your child if there is something that the photographer should change or address.

Mitchell School Bussing and Transportation
Click here to see Mitchell Bus Routes
Every summer, AAPS reviews bus routes to comply with Board Policy 3760- Transportation: following the 1.5-mile walk zone for the safety and efficiency of district operations.
The Ann Arbor Public Schools is again encouraging parents to use the My Bus Stop Arrival APP.
My Bus Stop Arrival APP: My Stop is a free desktop and mobile app that provides parents access to bus route information, such as a child’s assigned bus and location, and updates on the estimated time of arrival at the bus stop. My Stop allows parents and students to plan for late or on-time arrival and prevent missed pick-ups. We are aware of a 1–2-minute lag that may occur as the bus route information is being processed and transmitted to the app through the GPS system. We continue to work with My Stop to improve this issue.
Please still have your student at their bus stop 10 minutes before the posted arrival time.
Instructions on setting up My Stop from the app store and My Stop FAQs are below.
MyStop Instruction Translations
AAPS works closely with the City of Ann Arbor to make walking and biking route improvements following the Safe Routes to School initiatives.
AAPS strives to not only provide safe busing but to also reflect the commitment by AAPS to the Safe Routes to School initiatives as well as sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint.
This a reminder that school-of-choice families are responsible for transporting students to school. At this time, AAPS will not permit school-of-choice students to ride on school buses.
AAPS and Chartwell's Food Service
Important Information Regarding Breakfast and Lunch
Under the MICHIGAN SCHOOL MEALS program, students in the Ann Arbor Public School District will receive FREE meals (breakfast and lunch). Students will continue to maintain a benefit status of Free, Reduced, or Paid under the approved program. Benefit status' will be used for the purpose of grants and other state funding.
As part of our participation in this program, it is necessary for EVERY family to fill out what has previously been known as the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. Even if your family does not qualify for Free/Reduced lunch and even if you do not plan on having your child eat school provided lunch or breakfast, it is a requirement that every family fill out this form.
The hyperlink to the Educational Benefits Form can be found here - https://www.a2schools.org/departments/food-service/ebt-and-ebf-forms-for-all-families
Translated documents - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aZB75_Btqv0PqBVR2AcBg8_9g7whFnpX
Please note that students are not required to eat school provided meals and can continue to bring lunch from home if your family prefers. Also, while complete school breakfasts and lunches include milk, if your child only chooses milk and not a meal, there is a charge for milk served a-la-carte.
Chartwell's Special Dietary Needs Form
We recognize the critical importance of supporting students and families who manage food allergy issues every day. Our commitment is to always work closely with the families of students who have food allergies and medical conditions that require a modification to their menu. Our approach involves coordination between parents and guardians, school nurses, school administrators, and foodservice professionals following the Ann Arbor Public Schools food allergy and medical conditions policy
In order to modify the school meals, we must have the following form submitted and signed by a licensed medical provider (physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner) - Special Dietary Needs Form. The form must identify the following:
- Information about the child’s dietary needs that is sufficient for understanding how it restricts the child’s diet
- An explanation of what must be done to accommodate the child's dietary needs
- If appropriate, the food(s) to be omitted, texture modifications and recommended substitutions
Please email the completed form to our district Dietitian at aaps_dietary_requests@aaps.k12.mi.us. The dietitian will contact you to review the meal accommodation plan, which may require additions or amendments based on the ongoing supply chain issues.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student's allergies or dietary needs, please don't hesitate to reach out at aaps_dietary_requests@aaps.k12.mi.us.
AAPS Securly Parent Portal
In the Ann Arbor Public Schools, we utilize a cloud-based web filter called Securly to keep students safe on their district-issued devices. To help parents monitor their child's online activity at home, AAPS offers the free Securly Home app. This application allows web-based filtering and parental controls on district-issued devices at home. Parents may set rules to allow or disallow certain websites, pause the Internet connection to the device as desired, and receive weekly usage reports.
