Mr. Mauck's Musings
Mr. Jochum walked by my office today and said, "It was a pretty darn good week." I would concur with him. Our students and staff have made it a great first four days. If you would like to meet the staff we will have our Meet the Teacher night on Wednesday evening at 6:30. Parents will meet in the auditorium and will follow their student's schedules for five minute introductory periods with the teachers. I have also included some group pictures of the JHS staff.
School Happenings:
Congratulations to Alyson Hickey and Mrs. Julie Schubert on their selection as our Student and Staff of the Week recipients. Alyson was nominated by a staff member for exemplary kindness to one of her peers. Next week on Wednesday and Thursday, Kelly Buechlein from Buechlein Photography will be taking our school pictures. JHS Student Council or StuCo, help Freshman primary officer elections today. The final elections will be on Monday with CCD representative elections later in the week. StuCo also has their first edition of the battle of class bulletin boards. Check out each class and then vote for your favorite. Don't forget to join the JHS PTO. The dues are $25 per family and those will qualify you for the PTO scholarship and contribute to post prom.
Looking to Next Week:
Mrs. Hutton the school nurse has provided us with a registration link for a Flu Vaccine Shot Clinic performed by the Dubois County Health Department. If you would like your student to receive the flu vaccine just fill out the registration and they can receive the shot during school. We will have club callouts during CCD Tuesday through Friday next week. All students will have an opportunity to experience what our clubs have to offer by visiting tables with information about club activities displayed. Our robotics team is looking for adults to help sponsor the club. If you are interested there is information below. We also have several community events listed.
Athletic and Weekend Events:
Good luck to our soccer teams as they travel tomorrow to Bloomington South and Seymour for matches. Jasper Tennis will host Westfield and Brownsburg at 9 and 2 at the Ed Yarbrough Tennis Complex. You can all join me tonight at Heritage Hills to watch the football scrimmage. The start was moved back 30 minutes to 7:30 EST. The Patriots will be a good test before our first home game next week against Evansville Memorial. Good luck to all our teams and Go Cats!

PTO NEWS
Welcome to our 2026-2027 school year! As your JHS PTO, we are excited to get the year going and plan some fun events for your students! In order to do this, we need YOUR HELP!! Your PTO dues of $25 per family are used to help us with these student-focused events and also award two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. This past year we were excited to host Post Prom, award two scholarships and provide free ice cream sandwiches to the students. We are planning on doing these AND MORE this year! Remember, if you would like your student to be considered for one of our scholarships, your dues must be paid for the year.
Please send PTO dues to school (cash or check made out to JHS PTO) in an envelope. Mark on the envelope:
· “PTO Dues”
· Student name(s) and grade(s)
Dues can also be paid to the PTO Venmo account, @jasperpto and include your student name(s) and grade(s).

Scholarships
The 2027 Dubois County Community Foundation Scholarship Application will be available online through our scholarship portal via the following link to our website: www.dccommunityfoundation.org/scholarships
The application will be open from August 3 to October 5, 2026.
As we enter another year of with our scholarship portal here are few reminders…
- There is one universal application for students to complete, and this application includes all Dubois County Community Foundation Scholarship opportunities and the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP).
- Students are no longer required to review each listed/named scholarship then ‘self-select’ eligibility based upon the stated criteria for each scholarship.
Timelines for scholarship announcements remain the same with Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship made in December 2026 and the Community Foundation Scholarships made by February 2027.
Attached please find the ‘Scholarships–Frequently Asked Questions’ document that can be shared as a resource to promote the scholarships as well as guide students through the online application process. Application tutorial videos are also available for students to review regarding creation of portal access and applying online. Both are great resources but as always, please don’t hesitate to contact the Community Foundation directly with questions.
