Episcopal Schools Week is Here!
Great is his faithfulness; God’s mercies are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22–23
This week, we joyfully celebrate Episcopal Schools Week—a time to reflect on our Episcopal Identity and why we exist.
At St. Luke’s Episcopal School, we do more than teach reading, writing, public speaking, or math. We also seek to instill a deeper truth: every one of us is a beloved child of God, and God is continually pouring out his love and mercy on his children so that we can do the same for others.
Every morning in daily chapel, we are invited to be still and remember these truths. With our Episcopal Identity threaded through our mission, the St. Luke’s Way, and everything we do, we believe that a strong spiritual foundation helps students become grounded, curious, compassionate, and ready to engage the world around them.
When students know who they are and whose they are, they are better equipped to learn, to ask questions, to navigate challenges, to build meaningful relationships, and to use their gifts in service of others. At St. Luke’s, we nurture the whole child—cultivating students who are grounded in faith, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership and prepared to make a difference in the world.
Please mark your calendars for these special chapel events during Episcopal Schools Week:
Sunday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m. - School families are encouraged to attend Episcopal School Sunday Services at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Students and faculty will help lead the worship and Singing Tigers, along with our handbell choir will be performing.
Tuesday, October 6, at 8:00 a.m. - Blessing of the Pets on the south lawn. Parents are invited to bring your pets to the south lawn after dropoff. All creatures, great and small, are welcome. Students are invited to bring a photo of their pet and/or stuffed animal, if pet is unable to be present.
- Thursday, October 8, at 8:00 a.m. - All-school chapel with a blessing of students, faculty and staff. Please join the whole school (including EC) for chapel in the sanctuary to bless our school community. Join us for a Pep Rally with a blessing of the fall athletes beginning at 2:15 p.m. in the McNab Gym.

October Grandparent & Special Friend Lunches!
We are so excited to invite you to Grandparents and Special Friends Lunch at St. Luke's Episcopal School! This is a wonderful way to experience your student's day and see our vibrant school community firsthand.
To make sure everyone has a great time, please review these quick details:
- Sign-up required: Space is limited for each grade.
- Limit one visit: Please sign up only once per student this fall semester so every family gets a turn.
- No outside food: Due to severe food allergies, please do not bring outside food or drinks.
We look forward to sharing a wonderful lunch with you!
Week 6: Let Kids Work Through Social Problems
This semester, Rachel Sanborn’s Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Snapshot will feature weekly, parent-friendly takeaways from Jessica Lahey’s book The Gift of Failure. Mrs. Sanborn, along with Student Achievement Coordinator, Donna Finch will wrap up the series with a book talk at the December 1st Parent Council Coffee.
It can be incredibly hard to watch our children struggle with friendships. Our first instinct may be to call another parent, solve the conflict, or tell our child exactly what to say. Lahey encourages us to give children space to navigate age-appropriate social challenges on their own. We can listen, empathize, and help them think through their options without taking over. Try asking, “What do you think you could do?” or “How would you like this to turn out?” rather than immediately offering a solution.
