Outdoor Recess Guidelines & Reminders

We head outdoors every day as long as the temperature stays above 20°F and playground conditions are safe. To help us keep your child warm and organized, please keep the following in mind:

  • Footwear & Snow Gear: Snow boots are required to play in the snow. Students are welcome to bring a change of indoor shoes.

  • Practice at Home: Please encourage your child to practice zipping, snapping, and buttoning their jackets independently.

  • Label Everything: Put your child's name on all outer gear! Kindergarteners are notorious for misplacing gloves and mittens. Multiple childen? Just use your family name.

  • Keep Valuables Home: Avoid sending expensive coats to school. While we do our best to keep track of belongings, items can get misplaced.

  • Lost & Found: Unclaimed items move to the lunchroom at the end of each day. Parents are always welcome to drop by and check the lost and found. We have a few extra jackets around that can be borrowed in emergencies.

  • We are unable to keep children inside for parental preference. If a child cannot go outside due to an illness, they are probably are not well enough to be at school. Please feel free to reach out to out school nurse if you have questions or concerns about this matter.

Math Compacting Math Compacting

Dear Families,

As the first quarter comes to a close, we are excited about the learning opportunities we have had so far. In our grade level, we want to make sure every child gets just what they need in math each day. To do this, we use flexible grouping and math compacting. This might look like your child working with other teachers in different Kindergarten classrooms.

What Does Math Compacting Look Like?

  • Pacing & Acceleration: Because students in compacted groups demonstrate quick mastery of core standards, the instruction pace may be faster. Additionally, we may introduce advanced concepts and standards typically taught in the grade above to extend and deepen their understanding.

  • Shared Student Model: To make flexible grouping work effectively, teachers across the grade level share students during math instruction. This ensures each child is learning alongside peers with similar instructional needs. Please rest assured that sharing students across classrooms and working with interventionists, specialists, and service providers is a standard practice at our school that supports all of our learners.

We are so thrilled about this opportunity to make math fun, engaging, and inspiring for your child! Please feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions or just want to chat about your child’s math journey:

Thank you for all you do at home to support learning!

Warmly,

The Kindergarten Team
