Principal's Corner

Dear BFPP Families,

It's that time of year when we all stop and consider what are we grateful for. I have been thinking about gratitude and what it feels like, looks like and sounds like and with real intention trying to show more gratitude. I know it feels wonderful to be seen and recognized by others and their "thank you", as well as express sincere gratitude, so let's spread some around. It doesn't cost anything and it is truly the best investment you can make!

Thank you families, students, colleagues, teachers, staff, community members, those near and far, from our past and present, thank you with all my heart.

Warmly, Principal Kate

Math Club

The Elementary and Middle school Math Clubs took the first Math Olympiad test of the year yesterday! Kids wrestled with five challenging problems on their own for half an hour, and then shared their ideas and solutions together over snacks. These monthly MOEMS tests are a great opportunity to develop grit and a growth mindset. A sample test can be found at https://moems.org/sample/.

If you're interested in learning more, please contact Rachel. If your kid is interested in problem solving, elementary level (grades 3-6) meets Thursday mornings in the cabin at BFPP, 9:15-10am. The next MOEMS is 12/8.

Here's the elementary club after their test, toasting to "math" and to all their hard work!

Free Books and Math Manipulatives

It's Getting Chilly Out There!

As the weather gets colder, waiting in our cars during classes is a chilly proposition! Did you know that we have three warm and beautiful family rooms dedicated to you, and also that car idling contributes to global warming? Every gallon of gas burned produces more than twenty pounds of greenhouse gasses. Come inside to our community spaces and meet someone new! And when you do need to wait in your car, please try to keep your engine off.

*Thanks to BFPP parent Amy Kraus for this reminder

Emergency and Weather Procedures

It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations.

Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), school could:

  • close for the day,
  • open two hours late, (BFPP classes will start at 10am)
  • open on time with buses on snow/alternate routes.

Families travel to BFPP from throughout the county. We ask that you use your best judgment when deciding whether or not to come to campus on inclement weather days.

How can I get weather/emergency information?

Changes to the school schedule are usually announced by 6 a.m., and we use a variety of methods to keep families informed:

  • Sign up for alerts: To receive email, phone, and/or text alerts, set your communication preferences in Parent Square.
  • Tune to local media: 790 AM, 96.5 FM, 104.1 FM or Seattle media.
  • Check bellinghamschools.org
  • Check social media: @BhamSD on Twitter or @bellinghamschools on Facebook
  • Call 360-676-6400 for a recorded message.
  • Call 360-647-6815 for a message translated in Español, русский, tính từ and Punjabi.

Please familiarize yourself with our weather procedures.
