Current Events
Dear Families,
We are definitely settling in. It is lovely on our end to have these two 4-day weeks as everyone adjusts to waking up on time and the dailiness of school. The fatigue is visible toward the end of each day.
Annual forms: If you haven’t already sent your packet in, please do. Having them in hand helps us to ensure we have the current contact information and permissions.
FOWE potluck: The annual potluck is coming up this Wednesday, 9/9, at 6:00 pm.
Look for a sign up link from FOWE for volunteer jobs for set up and clean up.
Please bring a main dish or salad to share. FOWE will provide drinks and cookies for dessert. Bringing a serving utensil is always helpful.
We do ask that your children sit with you for the duration of the meal and when they are done, if they would like to play outside, that you or another adult heads out with them. We will talk with the children ahead of time about expectations for the evening and their responsibilities and appreciate your attention to this. It helps to make the event relaxing and pleasant for all.
It’s always been a good time for families and many of the staff to break bread together and connect. Hope to see you all there!
Raised garden beds: This past Sunday a whole crew from the Weybridge Congregational Church prepared the raised beds in front of the school and did extensive weeding on the grounds. Our plan is to plant some vegetables that we can use in our meals program. If any of you would like to help with this, please contact me asap.
Crabapple bonanza: The 2-3 class collected and counted 1,404 crabapples on the playground. The crabapples are still sitting in a bag outside the front door and are up for grabs if you would like to make jelly. After this week
Reminder: After school transportation: Be sure to notify Shannon Minor if there are any changes in your child’s regular after school plans well before the end of the day. Please call the school (802-545-3302), text the school cell phone (802-349-5305) or email Shannon: sminor@acsdvt.org. We check messages frequently.
REMINDER: Indoor/outdoor clothing and gear - All students (K-5) need the following:
Sneakers and SOCKS - especially for P.E Tuesdays and Thursdays to ensure safe movement. Students will not be able to participate in P.E. without sneakers.
Rain boots, rain pants and rain jackets - please help students come prepared for the weather of the day.
Attendance: Please build the habit of consistent attendance. Please email Wendy Baker, Superintendent, wbaker@acsdvt.org and copy me regarding anticipated absences 3 days or more. Please be sure you contact the school in the morning if your child is/will be out of school and let us know if it is illness related. Thanks.
Missing school for family trips - a request: As the teachers and I reflected on last year, we talked about the number of extended trips that students took with their families. While we all value these opportunities for our students, we also ask that, whenever possible, you plan these trips during school vacations. Having students away from the classroom has a significant impact on the classroom culture and continuity of learning - not only for your child but also their classmates. Learning is a highly interactive, social process best served by stable attendance.
Lunch volunteers: If you would like to volunteer to help with lunch prep and service (11:00-12:00) please sign up here for September/October dates. We need volunteers for next Wednesday (9/9) and Friday (9/11). No experience needed! If you are new to volunteering, you will need to apply here.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301),
Have a lovely, long weekend. Christina

District News
Share your experience with 2026-2027 Bus Transportation Across our district, we are facing significant transportation challenges caused by driver shortages on multiple bus routes. You can find revised bus routes here based on Week 1 changes, and also in your principal’s newsletters. We hope the changes we made in Week 1 will offer stability moving forward and we will continue to make adjustments as needed and hope to get back to our normal bus routes as quickly as possible. However, we are also working to capture the full impact this challenge has had on our families as we escalate this situation to the the Secretary of Education and BetCha’s parent company, STA. Please use this form to document the impact any bus disruptions had on your family so that we can act on and/or pass along the information as we seek resolution.
