🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
Red Hawks have just five school days left in 2025, and we are ready to make the most of each one with our students. This week will look and feel just like any other week, filled with strong teaching, focused learning, and meaningful moments in classrooms across the building. In the spirit of one of our favorite habits, Habit 3: Put First Things First, we will work hard this week and then enjoy a well-earned break.
We will close out this incredible first half of the school year with our December Red Hawk Rally and Winter Parties on Friday. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate everything our students have accomplished.
A few reminders as we move into the break:
Winter Break runs from Monday, December 22nd through Friday, January 2nd. Monday, January 5th is a student holiday and an optional parent conference day from 8:00–12:00. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please reach out to schedule a time. Red Hawks will return to school bright and early for Quarter 3 on Tuesday, January 6th.
We wish every family a joyful, restful, and safe holiday season. Thank you for your partnership and support throughout this semester. We look forward to an amazing start to 2026!

Proud to be a Red Hawk,
Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal

Upcoming Parent Information Night
Rising 6th Grade Parent Information Night - Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 6pm.
Now that cooler weather has finally hit, our Lost and Found is running over with coats, water bottles and lunch boxes! Please ask your child to check our Lost and Found container located outside of the cafeteria for anything that belongs to them. Any items left after December 19th will be donated over the winter break.
Severe Weather Preparedness
It’s that time of year! ❄️ Please take a moment to review MISD’s inclement weather procedures so you know exactly where to find updates when winter weather rolls in. Staying informed keeps everyone safe and prepared!

December Counseling Focus
Looking Ahead to December:
We will shift our focus to Habit #4: Think Win-Win, teaching students how to seek positive solutions where everyone benefits. Our character trait for the month will be Empathy, as we guide students to understand and respect the feelings and experiences of others.
Thank you for supporting these conversations at home. Together, we are helping our Red Hawks grow into thoughtful, kind, and capable leaders!
Student Well-Being
At Malvern, student well-being is a top priority. Throughout the year, our counselor provides age-appropriate lessons that help students recognize “big” feelings, identify trusted adults, and practice coping strategies. Each elementary campus also displays the required “You Are Not Alone” poster so students know support is always available.
Our approach to suicide prevention focuses on helping students:
- Manage their emotions
- Understand that tough moments are temporary
- Notice when someone may need help
- Know who they can trust
- Use healthy coping skills
- Find support when they need it
Thank you for partnering with us to support the emotional health of every Red Hawk. Please review MISD’s Suicide Prevention Parent and Guardian Newsletter by selecting the button below.
Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy or photo on your telephone of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
Hawk Squad Call to Action
Hawk Squad is a fun, high-energy volunteer program where we welcome students each morning with high fives, compliments, positivity, and enthusiasm as they head into class! Getting started is simple—just complete the standard MISD volunteer background check and fill out the form linked here. (Please note: by completing this form you are giving your personal information to a Malvern parent.)
In addition to morning greetings, we also help out at various school events throughout the year. Our goal is to grow Hawk Squad into a strong and lasting tradition—and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
Active members will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive, custom Hawk Squad t-shirt to wear and keep.
We welcome everyone—dads, moms, grandparents, and more! If you're ready to have fun and make a difference, sign up and join the squad. We can’t wait to meet you!
