MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Franklin Community,

It was wonderful to see many of you at Back to School Night on Wednesday! Please let us know about your experience by completing this short google form. Thank you!

Student progress reports for quarter 1 are now posted. Students can check StudentVue for the progress grades and families can check ParentVue.

Wednesday, September 30th is Orange Shirt Day, a day of remembrance, reflection, and resilience to honor the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and placed in boarding schools and residential schools across Oregon and the United States, as well as Canada. These institutions were designed to forcibly assimilate Native children by erasing their identities, languages, and cultures. We encourage everyone to wear an orange shirt to school this day as a visible sign of support and solidarity. You can read more here about the Chemawa Indian School here in Oregon.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dr. Z

NEW: PSAT/Pre-ACT Prep Sessions

Attention sophomores and juniors!

During Flex on October 7th and 8th, we will be hosting information sessions in the auditorium to help you prepare for the upcoming PSAT and PreACT.

  • Juniors who have signed up for the PSAT: Your session will be Wednesday, October 7th.
  • All sophomores: Your PreACT session will be Thursday, October 8th.

The actual tests will be given on Wednesday, October 14th. During the Flex prep sessions, we will go over what to expect on test day and look at some resources and strategies you can use to prepare ahead of time.

Please bring your Chromebook with you to the session.

NEW: Lifetouch Photo Retakes

School photo retakes will happen at school on Thursday, October 15th during the school day.

Retakes are ONLY for families who purchased photos but are unhappy with them. Your student should bring their photo packet to school with them on October 15th in order to exchange it for a new packet. New ID cards will not be printed on this day. A student's new retake photo will be in the yearbook.

NEW: Trunk-or-Treating at Harvest Festival

The annual Harvest Festival is coming up on Wednesday, October 21st from 6:00-8:00pm.

This year we would love to include trunk-or-treating during the event. If you are interested in setting up a car trunk to represent an FHS organization, department, or team, please fill out this Google form. We can provide some support with purchasing candy.

Let's make this Harvest Festival a great experience for the community!

NEW: Parking Lot Reminder

All students who drive to school need to find a parking spot on the street. Parking lots on the east and west side of the school are for staff only. Students who park in either staff lot may have their car towed.

THIS WEEKEND: FHS Groundskeeping Event

There's a patch of FHS grounds just north of the Center for the Arts that's in need of some love! The area needs quick de-trashing, weeding/pruning, and then woodchip spreading. Come be part of the beautification!

NEW: Explore Your Park

Portland Park &Recreation’s environmental education department has launched a new program -- the ‘Explore Your Park Series!’

This series is a free, drop-in program for all ages that offers hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, creature features, guided park tours, and more. Events will be 2 hours in length and attendees can drop in to participate for any amount of time during that period. This program will visit a different Portland park each month to learn from and about the plants and animals that call it home.

In October, we will be hosting an Explore Your Park Series event at Mt Tabor Park. The park entrance address is at SE 69th and Yamhill, and we will be located near the playground. We will be learning about bats and other creatures!

No need to register, just come on by!
