Counseling Corner
Welcome Mrs. McElhinney - Counselor for Li-Ri
Hello! My name is Terie McElhinney, and I am excited to serve as the newest counselor here at Lebanon Trail! I’ve spent the last 7 years as the middle school ILA teacher at the SOC. I was an event planner for 17 years before going into education. I live in McKinney with my husband and two daughters. One of my daughters graduated from FISD a few years ago and one is set to graduate this year. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, engaging in outdoor activities, and rooting for the Dallas Stars. I look forward to contributing to the success and well-being of our students at Lebanon Trail.
Join Frisco ISD and the Princeton Review for an engaging discussion on the growing influence of Advanced Placement exams in college admissions.
With AP test participation far surpassing SAT and ACT enrollment- even before the pandemic- many students and parents are wondering: could AP’s eventually replace traditional standardized tests like the SAT and ACT?
“40 Tests To Rule Them All” will be held in person and tackle key questions, including:
Are AP tests becoming the new admission standard?
What are the mental health implications of increasing AP exam pressure?
Will the shift to digital AP’s improve the testing experience?

Nurse Note
We have come to the time of year to expect cold and flu symptoms. Some of these are unavoidable but there are several things you can do at home to help prevent illness and keep everyone feeling healthy. Here are some tips to remember:
- WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is still the best defense against illness. Encourage your children to wash, especially before meals, using soap and warm water. To ensure they are taking enough time to adequately kill germs, have them sing the ABC song while scrubbing (about 20 seconds).
- Get plenty of rest. School age children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night. Grownups should try to get 7-8 hours.
- Drink lots of fluids and eat a balanced diet - especially breakfast! I'm seeing a lot of students with stomachaches, nausea and headaches due to hunger.
- A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in classes in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child an opportunity to rest and recover.
- Do not send a known sick child to school for the school to send them back home with an excuse, doing so exposures everyone around them to illness. Be sure to keep your sick child home and report the absence on our website. If you are concerned about absences, reach our to your physician or telehealth provider for a note.
Please see below for FISD guidelines to help you know whether your child should come to school or stay at home.
·A fever 100 degrees or higher. A child should not come back to school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours without medication. These medicines may lower the number and help a child feel better but do not treat the underlying cause, your are contagious until 24 hrs with no fever has passed.
· Vomiting or diarrhea
· A frequent cough
· Any rash accompanied by a fever
· Ear pain and/or eye drainage
· Sore throat with a fever and/or rash
If you have a change in address or phone number, remember to contact the school office. It is very important to be able to reach you in the event your child becomes ill at school. Please also let me know if your child is home with flu or strep. This information is reportable to the state and helps us maintain a healthy school environment.
