Test-Prep Strategies
Testing is simply a chance to show off what you’ve learned! By staying positive and using a few clever tricks, students can turn a stressful day into a successful one:
Build Early Momentum: Start by answering the questions you know for sure. This "confidence boost" gets your brain in the zone and makes the harder questions feel much smaller later on.
Be a Detective: Treat multiple-choice questions like a puzzle. Cross out the answers that don't fit until you’re left with the winner—it feels great to narrow down the mystery!
Brain Dumps: As soon as the test starts, jot down any formulas or dates you're worried about forgetting on scratch paper. Once they're on paper, your mind is free to focus and relax.
The "Reset" Breath: If you feel a "brain fog" coming on, take a five-second "mini-vacation." Close your eyes, take one deep breath, and visualize yourself hitting a home run or finishing a favorite game.
Celebrate the Effort: Remind yourself that you've worked hard to get here. Focus on the "I can" rather than the "what if," and remember that every question you answer is a step toward finishing strong.

Essential News Literacy Skills for Today's Kids
Practical tips to boost your child's digital well-being when upsetting content takes over their social media feed.
Summarized from Common Sense Media
Navigating a heavy news cycle can be overwhelming for both parents and kids, but it’s also an opportunity to build digital resilience together. By finding a balance between staying informed and knowing when to step away, you can help your children process the world around them without feeling drained. Focusing on mindful habits allows the whole family to engage with technology in a way that feels safe, intentional, and grounded.
Strategies for Navigating News as a Family
Filter for Quality: Help your kids identify reliable sources by checking multiple outlets. Since short videos often skip important context, talking through the "full story" helps teens and tweens make sense of what they see on their feeds.
Connect Through Conversation: Use current events to explore your family's unique values and perspectives. Encouraging kids to share their thoughts helps them develop their own voice while feeling supported by your guidance.
Prioritize What Matters: Not every post deserves a reaction. You can empower your kids to use "critical ignoring" by setting notification limits and teaching them to scroll past content designed specifically to upset or manipulate them.
Refresh Your Digital Space: Remind your kids that they have control over their feeds. Resetting algorithms or clearing search histories can help "clean up" a social media environment that has become too focused on negative content.
Access Extra Help: If world events feel like too much to handle alone, professional resources from the APA or the 988 Crisis Line are always available to provide your family with extra emotional support.
