Our class has been studying Veterans Day and generated four strong ideas for how Woodglen School can celebrate. The students then formed groups based on their preferred idea and collaboratively wrote a persuasive letter to Mrs. Maher, asking her to select their proposal. After reviewing their arguments, Mrs. Maher visited the class with an update. Each group created a presentation poster and presented their idea to her. Mrs. Maher. Mrs. Maher shared how she loved all the ideas and committed to weaving each idea into our school year!
Thank you Principal Maher for your ongoing commitment to our community!

The E-Pledge! Ms. Bonn's class invites all of the Woodglen community to take the pledge!
The E-Pledge!
We, the students and staff of Woodglen Elementary School pledge to commit ourselves to the E Pledge, which is 100 acts of kindness in 100 days. We believe that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our school and community. By working together, we will create a more compassionate and inclusive environment for all.
Make the pledge at home too! Here is how:
At Woodglen, kindness starts with us! Inspired by Ethan Falkowitz and The E-Pledge Foundation, our students and staff are committing to 100 Days of Kindness beginning November 13, 2025 โ World Kindness Day.
Together, weโll practice empathy, celebrate compassion, and make kindness part of everything we do โ one thoughtful act at a time. Check out our Kindness document and complete it at home.
Together, weโll celebrate what it means to live the values of the Clarkstown Central School District by helping to better our entire community through kindness, empathy, and action.
Our shared traits guide us:
๐ช Motivated ๐ก Innovative ๐ Empathetic ๐ฑ Resilient
Each month, students will focus on joyful ways to spread kindness through actions, words, and gratitude, connecting directly to district goals of building Future-Ready Learners, Engaged Community Members, and Educators as Leaders.
Together, letโs make Woodglen Elementary a beacon of compassion, and inspire kindness across Clarkstown โ one act at a time. ๐ซ

Hey hey! Iโm Matthew Ludvigsen, and grew up in a town in central New Jersey called Hillsborough. Now I live in Orange County, NY. I have been in the Education field for about 15 years and most of it in Special Education. My favorite thing to do is watch and quote movies and tv shows. Love going to live shows. Watching sports and mix martial arts. I played Lacrosse in college ant Pace University, and now today Iโm ABSOLUTELY obsessed with Jujitsu. My favorite Cookie is Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies. God bless!
Music with Ms. Radulovich
Music Notes from Woodglen!
This month in music, our fourth and fifth graders are preparing for their upcoming concert which explores rounds and scales explored in new ways.
Singing in a round takes real focus, and the students are doing a wonderful job listening carefully to one another as they sing.
Fifth Graders have also been practicing solfรจge- and everyone has successfully demonstrated Do Re Mi Fa So (ascending and descending) with musical hand signs.
The third graders have received their recorders and are learning how to use steady, gentle breath to make beautiful sounds instead of squeaks.
Kindergarten through second grade are working with the glockenspiels- discovering how notes get higher and lower, as they bounce to a steady beat.
Everyone at Woodglen is making wonderful music!
Enrichment with Mrs. Tsironist

4th Grade:
Fourth graders are collaborating in groups of 2โ4 on their Thanksgiving Day Parade Float projects! Each group is designing a stained glassโinspired float, built from paper lanterns and decorated with colorful tissue paper. Their imaginative designs are sure to shine bright in our art displays.
3rd Grade:
Third graders have begun studying warm and cool color schemes. Theyโre creating animal transfer drawings, inspired by the bold colors and playful style of artist George Rodrigue. These paintings are sure to pop with personality!

The One and Only Ivan
10/14-12/12
Welcome! One Book, One School is a community event where families, students, and staff will be sharing their love for literacy by all reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.
Families are encouraged to read the book aloud to their student(s) at home. Reading aloud is valuable because it better prepares effective readers and it is also a worthwhile family activity!
You can also listen to the audiobook recorded by many special guests! See the "Audio Recordings" tab on this website for the links. https://sites.google.com/ccsd.edu/laurelplainswoodglen-onebookon/home
Portrait of a Learner Traits in The One and Only Ivan
In The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, the main character Ivan, a silverback gorilla, develops and demonstrates the traits of being empathetic, motivated, innovative, and resilient through his journey. At Woodglen, we strive to show kindness each day! We filled our front lobby with "Ivan" handprints showcasing our promise to being kind.
We can show kindness, just like Ivan!
