Lighthouse families,

The building is buzzing this week as staff get ready to welcome students to the new year! We are less than a week from the start of the school year! Our staff has been engaged in learning together, designing learning for students, and planning to get ready for the year. We look forward to seeing many of you tonight at our open house!

First week bus transportation: During the first week of school, we release buses about 15 minutes early each day to help drivers get used to their routes. This may mean earlier arrivals for your student.

Students concurrently enrolled at the high school: Students that are concurrently enrolled at the high school will begin their courses for the first trimester on Tuesday, September 1.

Attendance: Attendance is critical to student growth and success. Thank you, in advance, families, for helping with the most important job – getting your student(s) to school on time each day and ready to learn. Let’s start the year strong.

We can’t wait to see you next Monday, August 31 at 8:10 a.m. to welcome our students to this school year!

Enjoy these last few days of summer!

Drop Off and Pick Up

Please review the Lighthouse School parent drop-off and pick-up information and map in order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic at the beginning and end of each day. Note: There is a construction class that uses the north side of the parking lot and this area is fenced off. Please follow the path between the cones around the fencing.

  • Arrival: Students can be dropped off each day after 7:45 a.m. with school beginning at 8:10 a.m. Parents dropping students off should pull into the parking lot drop off area. No cars should be in the bus lane during drop off or pick up time when buses are present.
  • Dismissal: At the end of the day, students who ride the bus will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. and parent pick up will begin at 3 p.m. Students being picked up will come outside to meet their parents after all buses are cleared. Please pick students up no later than 3:15 p.m. as there is no staff supervision outside after that time.
  • Change in Transportation: If there is a change in transportation, please make sure to call the Lighthouse office and let us know, 763-600-5200.

Lighthouse School Afterschool Opportunities at Westwood- Grades 5-8

There are many afterschool clubs and activities at Westwood that Lighthouse School students can join. We provide a shuttle that takes Lighthouse School students to Westwood at 2:20 p.m. each week day. See what after-school opportunities are available.

If you sign your student up for a club or activity and would like them to take the shuttle, please email Sheri Koehn in the Lighthouse School office and provide the activity name and the days your student will take the shuttle. You can also call the Lighthouse School office at 763-600-5200. Parents will be responsible for picking up their student at Westwood after the activity.

2026-2027 School Handbook

Our Spring Lake Park Schools School Handbook for 2026-2027 is now available. The handbook is a guide for families and students on the practical aspects of school – start and end times, procedures for absences, transportation, meals, policies and more. Please review the information and refer to it, as needed, throughout the year and contact your school as you have questions.

Transportation reminders for a new year

  • Bus Tracking (MyStop app): We use MyStop, which is web-based application available to parents and students that allows them access to live bus GPS information. Using a smartphone or tablet, parents and students can view the current location of buses on routes and the estimated time of arrival at their neighborhood bus stops. Learn more about MyStop.
  • Bus Safety: It is very important all students and families understand our bus safety rules. See the full bus safety list on the transportation webpage.
  • Plan to ride the bus on first day of school: For students who ride the bus, please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out all our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
  • Transportation webpage and contact information: Find all transportation information on the transportation webpage. For any questions regarding transportation, please contact the transportation department at transportation@district16.org or 763-600-5590.

  • Protection and privacy of student records and information

Printed district calendar update

All families should have received a printed district calendar in the mail this month. If your family does not use it or have a need for it - rather than throwing it away - we ask that you please consider returning to the District Services Center main office (1415 81st Ave. NE). There is a bin there to place it in and we will repurpose and reuse!

New digital scoreboards at the high school

If you get to a soccer or football game this fall in Panther Stadium, you'll notice a new digital scoreboard. In partnership with a group of community fundraisers, we were able to move forward with installation of this enhancement over the summer. There are also digital scoreboards in the Panther gym and at the softball and baseball fields.

The scoreboards will provide clear, real-time updates, flexible multi-sport use, and bright LED visibility from any angle. Learn more about sponsorship and other visibility opportunities on this sponsorship handout and check out the scoreboards at an upcoming game.
