Communication Protocol
Week of October 20, 2025
Nighthawk Families,
We welcome our Track 4 students back to the Nest as they begin Quarter 2 on Monday. Quarter 1 report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, October 24th.
Track 3 is wished a restful track out. We look forward to having you back in the Nest on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
This week our Athletic Games will be played at Fuquay Varina HS against Fuquay Varina MS. All three teams will play at the high school beginning at 4:00 PM with volleyball and soccer. The football team will begin their game 6:30 PM under the lights. See the specifics in the Athletics section of the newsletter.
7th and 8th graders are encouraged to sign up for their first dance on Friday, October 24th. Details in the newsletter.
Please take some time to review the Student Code of Conduct with your child as our team's goal is to maximize learning throughout the school day. We have found that students are having a hard time with the first four rules of conduct that are considered Level 1s. Level 1 infractions are handled at the classroom level by the teacher so you will be contacted as needed. Administrators will be contacted by teachers when there is a pattern of behavior not adhering to the teachers' preventative measures and/or interventions. It is important that all students come prepared to learn each day and work to not negatively impact their learning or that of other students in the classrooms.
I-1 Compliance with Directives: Students shall comply with all lawful and reasonable directives of school employees, including but not limited to directives to identify oneself, to remove oneself from a dangerous or disruptive situation, or to report to a designated person or location.
I-2 Mutual Respect: Mutual respect is expected between students and staff. Students will refrain from words (written or oral) and/or gestures that demean, degrade, antagonize, or humiliate a school employee, volunteer, visitor, or other student(s). Examples may include ridiculing, cursing at, or aggressively or angrily shouting at an employee, volunteer, visitor, or other student(s).
I-3 School/Class Attendance: Students will attend school each school day except in the case of excused absences. Students will be on time to school and on time to class, will refrain from entering unauthorized areas, and will remain at school and in the designated locations for the duration of each school day unless excused.
I-4 Appropriate Language: Cursing or use of vulgar, profane, or obscene language, oral or written, is prohibited. If such language is directed at a school employee, volunteer, visitor, or other student(s), such conduct should be treated under Rule I-2.
We have seen an increase in students not eating lunch. Please see below and submit a request for Free and Reduced Lunch as we want all students to eat, be comfortable and perform their best each day. If you have any questions you can reach out to a counselor or our Social Worker, Gina Mathew.
Just a reminder that graphics in the newsletter can be clicked to link to sign-ups where appropriate.
With appreciation for your support and partnership as we are #RootedtoRISE in Year 4,

Tracks 1 & 2: Humility; Track 4: Knowing My Words and Actions Affect Others
Dear Families,
This week, Tracks 1 & 2 will focus on the character strength of Humility. Humility means not seeking attention and letting your actions speak for themselves. Humble people understand their abilities and achievements without underestimating them. They can admit mistakes, accept advice, and are open to new ideas. They don't show off their successes or possessions.
Developing humility helps people reflect on how they can improve and work well with others. It allows them to grow and become valuable team members.
To practice and encourage the character strength of humility at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below is the link to this week’s P2 for Families lessons.
This week, Track 4 will focus on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others, which means having an awareness that everything that we say and do can affect others — and our relationships with them.
Whether we speak, email, text, or post, our words and actions can have a positive or negative effect. The words and actions we choose can lift others up or bring them down, and they also impact us. When we all think carefully about our words and actions and show respect and care for those around us, we create a happier and healthier community.
To practice and encourage this Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below is the link to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Credit by Demonstrated Mastery - Application Window
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) is the process by which a student may earn credit for a high school course by demonstrating a deep understanding of course content, without course enrollment or seat time.
The CDM process requires students to complete a two-phase assessment and meet the expected targets in order to demonstrate mastery of the course content.
Phase 1: A standard examination -- which shall be the EOC where applicable -- a locally developed assessment, or other district approved assessments.
Phase 2: An artifact, portfolio, or assessment that requires the student to apply knowledge and skills relevant to the content standards.
To apply to participate in the CDM process, complete the CDM Application and Agreement. Applications must be submitted to our school-based CDM Coordinators, Amanda Merrell-Goncalves and Erin Wojciechowski.
