Gold Rush Elementary Principal's Message - August 18, 2023

“Foster Growth by Challenging Critical Thinkers to Take Risks,

Honor Differences & Care for Others”

GOING FOR THE G.O.L.D. GOING FOR THE G.O.L.D.

Gold Rush is committed to creating critical thinkers who take risks, honor differences and care for others. This mission lives in our classrooms and is embraced by students and staff. In order to create a positive, caring community students practice Going for the G.O.L.D., or Giving respect, Owning your actions, Listening and learning and Doing your best.

As a part of establishing initial routines students define what it looks like to Go for the G.O.L.D. Teachers share their own video examples (and humorous non-examples) of what it looks like to Go for the G.O.L.D. in the classroom, the playground and throughout the building. Students who are spotted Going for the GOLD are awarded golden tickets. This Friday the school held its first student raffle with golden tickets and winners were celebrated on the announcements. Classes with the most golden tickets also got a stuffed Digger, our beloved school mascot.

Grade levels also met with the counselor this week and talked about how they can work across their classes to support one another. Classes read books with the theme of including others, identified respectful actions and identified how kindness makes others feel welcome. We are proud of students' genuine desire to contribute to our positive school community.

Keeping students safe is our number one priority. We know that schools continue to be one of the safest places for children. Gold Rush follows numerous measures to ensure a safe school environment. These include locked entries, our video buzzer system and our updated camera system. Students also routinely practice safety drills, including fire drills, severe weather drills and lockdown drills.

One of the most effective safety strategies is our ongoing partnership with the Parker Police Department and the District Security Team. Officer Herrera is our School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) and he is an active member of our school community. He visits our building at least once a day and is adored by students and staff. Officer Herrera checks the perimeter of the building, both inside and out, and he consults with staff. Gold Rush also works closely with members of the District Security Team who also routinely visit the building. Both the Parker Police Department and the District Security Team facilitate our annual lockdown trainings.

Gold Rush relies on each and every member of our community to help us maintain a safe environment. Please refrain from letting adults in the building when entering or exiting as they must check in with the front office. Please also report any concerning information to the office immediately.

Gold Rush is extremely grateful for its partnership with families and outside agencies. Below are resources parents can use to guide conversations around safety. As always, do not hesitate to reach out if you or your child needs any support throughout the year.
