Byron Public Schools Prepare For 2025-26 Budget Adjustment Recommendations
Since the summer of 2024, we have been preparing to present additional budget adjustments to the school board for the 2025-26 school year. As we continue to manage the current 2024-25 budget and plan for the upcoming year, the total amount of necessary budget adjustments is $1.6 million.
The administrative team has dedicated numerous hours to preparing these adjustments and discussing the impact of changes to our schools and programs. Administrators and board members participated in staff and community advisory groups throughout the summer and fall, and the insights gathered from these groups were invaluable in shaping the proposed budget adjustments.
The school board will hold its regular meeting this Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM at the Middle School, where the presentation of the budget adjustment recommendations is on the agenda. While board members will have the opportunity to review the proposed adjustments and ask questions, no formal action will be taken at this meeting. A Special Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Monday, February 24th at the Middle School, during which the board will take action on the approval of the budget reductions.
Like many districts across the state, Byron Public Schools is facing the need for budget adjustments to meet financial demands for the upcoming year. These adjustments are necessary to address anticipated expenditures and to rebuild the district's fund balance to the school board's policy requirement of 8%. With 77% of the district's budget allocated to salaries and benefits, many of the necessary adjustments will impact staff members who have made significant contributions to our students and community. These staff members are not only valued colleagues but also friends, and their departure will have a profound effect on all of us.
Despite these challenges, I am confident that our staff will continue to support one another as we work towards financial stability and a strong future for Byron Public Schools.
Go Bears!

Byron Public Schools Superintendent Search
Community Involvement is Essential
One of the most crucial steps in this process is gathering input from the Byron community. Beginning February 3, a community survey will be available on the district website providing an opportunity for parents, staff, students, and community members to share their thoughts on the qualities and priorities they value in the next superintendent. The survey will remain open through February 24, with options to complete it online or via hard copy at the district office. CLICK HERE to access the community survey.
While this process will move efficiently, the school board remains fully committed to selecting the best candidate to lead Byron Public Schools into the future. We encourage all community members to stay engaged and provide their valuable input as we work to find the next leader for our district.
For more information and updates, please visit the district website.
Key Dates in the Selection Process:
February 3: Application window opens.
March 16: Application deadline.

Congratulations to FFA Seniors Maria T. and Sarah P. who completed the interview process to receive the Minnesota State FFA Degree. The Minnesota State FFA Degree requires members to be active in their chapter, their community, have an income-producing SAE, and develop and show leadership skills.
