OCHS Principal's Update

September 2025

OCHS Principal'sUpdateSeptember 2025

A Note from Mrs. Burton

Dear Knight Families,

Thank you for helping make the beginning of the school year a success for our Knights! The back-to-school routine can be a big adjustment for families, and we appreciate the many ways you support your students—whether it’s making sure they have a healthy meal, setting aside a quiet place for homework, or encouraging their involvement in extracurricular activities. The little things you do for your child—and often for their friends—make a big difference and do not go unnoticed.

I’d like to share a few important updates as we move into September:

📋 Surveys
In accordance with a new state mandate, parents/guardians must be notified at least 15 days before certain surveys are administered to students. Notification is required for surveys asking about:

  • Sexual information

  • Mental health information

  • Medical information

  • Health-risk behaviors

  • Religious information

  • Political affiliation

  • Drug/alcohol use

We will use the Remind system for all notifications. If you are not receiving Remind messages for your child’s grade, please contact the OCHS Office to verify your information.

📚 Second Semester Test Policy
OCHS will no longer offer exemptions from second semester tests for good attendance. Instead, all students will complete a semester assessment in each course. This may take the form of a test, project, presentation, or performance. Details for both first and second semester assessments can be found in each course syllabus. I encourage you to ask more about this at your child's parent teacher conferences in October.

🩺 Doctor’s Notes
If your student is absent due to a medical visit, please turn in a doctor’s note within 10 days of the appointment. We encourage you to request a physical note from your provider and submit it to Mrs. Wilson in the OCHS Office upon your child’s return to school.

🎉 Homecoming Dance – Date Change
Due to a change in the fall activity schedule, Homecoming has been moved to Saturday, October 11th. Stay tuned for more details and exciting announcements as we get closer to Homecoming Week at O-C!

If you have any questions about policies or procedures, or if you’d like to share an idea for improving our school, please don’t hesitate to reach out:

Sincerely,
