RECOGNITION
Board Member Highlight: Jessie Pleasant, Board President, provided a board member highlight on her recent “Pizza with the President” event at Larned High School. She shared feedback gathered from students through a survey that included several questions regarding their experience and perspectives on their time while at LHS.
Staff of the Month: "I would like to nominate Ted Van Horn to be a recipient of the Orange Spot Award. Recently, while subbing in the Wood shop, Ted spent time building Shawn's confidence on how to safely use a cordless drill. Initially, Shawn learned how to install and remove the battery pack. Later, Ted worked with Shawn on how to operate the drill. Shawn can now use the drill, independently, with supervision. Thank you, Mr. VanHorn, for your encouragement to Shawn, and for instructing him!"
What most may not know is that Mr. Van Horn is not a full-time employee at USD 495. He is a reliable and long standing substitute, mostly subbing at Larned High School. On average in a 20 day work month, he subs 15 days. We truly appreciate Ted's loyalty to the district.

She highlighted the benefits of the program for students, including hands on learning opportunities and clinical experiences This program is through Barton County Community College.
