Dear Smith Families,

We are pleased to share some exciting progress regarding the new Livernois entrance and traffic signal at Smith Middle School!

As construction continues, we are getting closer to having the new entrance fully operational.

New Livernois Entrance

• Striping: Road striping will be completed soon.

• Traffic Signal: DTE Energy is expected to provide power to the new traffic signal toward the end of next week. Once powered, the signal must remain in flashing mode for seven days before becoming fully operational. This is a standard process designed to help motorists become familiar with the new signal.

• Sidewalks: Work on the sidewalks surrounding the new entrance is ongoing.

• Receiving Area: The receiving area is fully paved.

• Parent Drop Off/Pick Up: Once the entrance is complete, parents will drop off and pick up their children using the Livernois driveway.

  
  

We recognize that construction and changes to traffic patterns have required patience and flexibility from our staff, students, and families. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation as we work toward completing these final improvements.

Please remember that while the new driveway will soon be accessible, the traffic signal will not be fully operational immediately. We encourage everyone to use extra caution when entering and exiting the school and to remain attentive to changing traffic conditions.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we put the finishing touches on our beautiful new Smith Middle School. We are excited to see these improvements come together and look forward to the added convenience and improved traffic flow they will provide for our school community.

On Monday, October 12, we proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new Smith Middle School! Thank you to the families, staff, students, community members, and local leaders who joined us for this special occasion, which included remarks, student performances, building tours, and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Wednesday, October 21 – Donut Sale: Start your student's morning with a sweet treat! The PTO will be selling donuts for $2 each before school.

🎉 Friday, October 23 – Knights Party: The first Knights Party of the year is almost here! Admission is free, with pizza, donuts, and drinks available for purchase.

Our 6th Grade Learning Communities are excited to celebrate the end of the 1st marking period with a Fall Festival! 🍂🎃

On Wednesday, October 28, students will enjoy a variety of fun activities in their classrooms throughout the day. We’ll wrap up our celebration by coming together as an entire learning community in the Commons.

The 6th Grade Team

MSTEP scores were emailed out to families on September 11. It has come to our attention that some families did not receive that email. We are working to upload student MSTEP results to PowerSchool and will let families know once they are available. In the meantime, if you would like to pick up a physical copy of your child’s scores, please feel free to stop into the main office.

The Smith Student Council is selling 8th Grade Sweatshirts. These are an optional, but fun memento for those who want a keepsake of their last year as a Smith Knight.

There is a choice between a hoodie or a crew neck sweatshirt. They will be black with white and gold details. All 8th graders' names will be on the back of the sweatshirts.

Please see the handout shared through 8th grade social studies classes or their Schoology pages for more details. We will NOT be ordering extra sweatshirts to sell afterwards. This is a preorder ONLY! Deadline to order is October 16. We hope to distribute the sweatshirts in the 2nd week of November if not sooner.

The Troy School District uses Schoology, a Learning Management System that offers our students the opportunity to see assignments and grades, participate in group discussions, interact with teachers and other students, track their progress, turn in assignments, monitor progress and homework due dates, plus much more.

Parents are able to create an account and see the student's grades, assignments, and more. In addition, parents can sign up for parent digest emails that are sent daily or weekly, as well as missing assignments alerts.

The Troy High School Model UN Team is excited to announce the 2nd annual "Fall Into MUN" Model United Nations (MUN) 2026 Workshop for TSD Middle School students!

The conference will take place Tuesday, October 27 at Troy High School starting at 6PM.

This new event will be an exciting opportunity for all TSD Middle School students to kick off their MUN season with the help of the THS MUN team.

Register by Friday, October 23 to secure your spot and get all the information necessary!
