A Few Important Notes

📚 Mrs. McCormick’s 1st Grade Class
Conferences for Mrs. McCormick’s class will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, rather than November 2nd.

🏫 5th & 6th Grade
The 5th and 6th grade team will not have individual conference sign-up times. Instead, they will offer open house, drop-in-style conferences. Families may stop in during the designated open house time to connect with teachers.

If you need assistance signing up, please contact the Houston Elementary Office. We’re happy to help!

We look forward to seeing you and partnering with you to support your child’s success!

📝 How to Find the Forms

Option 1: Go to the Houston Public Schools website:

https://www.houston.k12.mn.us

➡️ Click District
➡️ Click Back to School 2026
➡️ Find the Educational Benefits Forms

Option 2: Use the direct link to the forms:

📍 Paper copies will also be available in the Elementary School Office and High School Office. Forms can also be sent home with students upon request.

🙏 Please take the time to complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible.

Your participation helps us access funding and continue providing important programs and opportunities for our students.

Thank you for helping support Houston Public Schools and our students!

October Character Trait: Kindness & Conflict Resolution October Character Trait: Kindness & Conflict Resolution

Be Kind - An Animated Read Aloud All About Kindness Perfect for the Classroom - With Moving Pictures

📚 Book of the Week: Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller

This week, we are excited to share Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller with our students! This heartwarming story reminds us that kindness doesn’t have to be big or complicated—it can start with small, everyday choices.

Our CharacterStrong traits this month are Kindness and Conflict Resolution, and Be Kind is a wonderful way to explore both. Students will think about how their words and actions can make a difference, how we can show kindness when someone is having a difficult day, and how we can respond to conflict with empathy, patience, and understanding.

At Houston Elementary, we believe that kindness is a choice we can make every day. We encourage families to continue the conversation at home by asking:

💛 How did someone show kindness to you today?
💛 How did you show kindness to someone else?
💛 What can you do when you disagree with someone?
💛 How can kindness help us solve conflicts?

Together, we can help our students build a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and cared for.
