May The Melodies Begin!
It’s time to take all of our hard work and shift into performance mode! Over the past months, our students have fully embraced their creativity and imagination, bringing to life a wide variety of characters and musical experiences. From peaceful pirate stowaways and gritty orphans, to faithful patriots, energetic circus performers, the Von Trapp children, growing trees and even the lively citizens of Thneedville, their enthusiasm has been inspiring. It has been a joy to watch each student grow—not only in their musical skills, but also in their confidence and willingness to perform. I am incredibly proud of the dedication they have shown as we prepare for our upcoming concert season, which will begin with our youngest performers.
5th Grade
Our 5th graders have made impressive progress on the ukulele. They have been working hard to master chord progressions, and it’s exciting to see how much they can now accomplish with just three or four chords. With these foundational skills, they are unlocking the ability to play countless songs—far more than they may realize. Their confidence and independence as musicians continue to grow each week.
4th Grade
The 4th grade students have truly expanded their musical abilities on the recorder. They are now playing more notes than they ever imagined, and have even begun learning sharps and flats—an exciting milestone in their musical journey. By the end of the year, they will have learned the D major scale, a significant accomplishment that demonstrates both their focus and perseverance.
3rd Grade
In 3rd grade, students have been highly motivated by our “recorder belt” program. As they learn new songs, they earn colorful bands to decorate their recorders, wearing each one as a symbol of their progress and achievement. They take great pride in their growing collection, and it’s wonderful to see their excitement as they advance. This program will continue into 4th grade, guiding them through nearly every song in their recorder books.
2nd Grade
Our 2nd graders are full of energy and enthusiasm, bringing music to life through movement and rhythm. They have been working on coordination, steady beat, and expressive movement—essential elements of musical development. Their “sweet feet” and joyful participation make every class lively and engaging, and they are learning how rhythms can come together in creative and meaningful ways.
Kindergarten & First Grade
Our youngest students will be the first to perform, and they are ready to shine! At this age, memorization comes quickly, and their natural excitement is contagious. Each class is filled with bright smiles and positive energy, and it’s been heartwarming to see their eagerness to participate. I especially enjoy hearing when students share how they’ve practiced at home in their own unique ways—it shows just how much they care. If they bring even half of their classroom energy to the stage, their performances will be truly delightful. We are confident that they will entertain and bring smiles to everyone at Elm St. Elementary.
We look forward to celebrating all of our students and the incredible progress they have made this year. Thank you for your continued support in helping them grow as musicians and performers!
