Principal Notes

The first three weeks of school have been absolutely wonderful. It warms my heart to have all of our students back in the building engaging with their teachers and peers.

I have the distinct honor to be able to walk through each of our classrooms and observe the instruction. All of the teachers at Hawk Hollow have adjusted their teaching this year to engage in academic teaming. I'm sure you're wondering what that might look like in a classroom. Well, our students are sitting in groups of up to four (3 feet apart) and are encouraged to work with their teammates to problem solve. Students are utilizing tools like agree/disagree cards and summarizing maps which help to facilitate meaningful conversations around the content with their peers. I've seen our students in action and I am impressed by what they have accomplished during academic teaming! Our Little Hawks are making great strides towards success!

As we continue to learn about academic teaming, alongside Learning Sciences International (LSI), you may begin to hear your child talk about the Learning Targets in their classrooms Learning Targets help our students to understand the expectation of the day's lessons. When our students have a better understanding of what they are learning they are more likely to find success. So next week at the dinner table, ask your child about one of the learning targets they engaged in at school.

I look forward to continuing my walks through our building to observe the learning in action. I'm certain I will be able to see our school's vision in place and this school year will be a thriving success.

Hawk Hollow Elementary Vision Statement

We will work collaboratively to implement rigorous, standards-based core instruction and practice which shifts learning from teacher-based to student-based and fosters student agency showing improved outcomes for all.

Morning Supervision

Each morning our staff provides supervision for students as they arrive at school. Supervision begins at 8:15 and our supervisors can be identified by their yellow vests. If you are your child needs assistance with anything in the morning you can seek out one of our supervisors.

Breakfast doors will open at 8:10 and students are welcome to come to the front door. They should just buzz the office and let us know they have arrived for breakfast.
