ROGERS REMINDERS

Beginning on Monday, April 24, we are administering STAAR testing on campus. We are a closed campus and will not be able to accommodate visitors. Thank you for understanding!

Parents and guardians of current Frisco ISD students will receive emails April 4-14, 2023 with instructions on how to begin the registration process for the 2022-23 school year.

Keep an eye out: The email will include a unique snapcode and instructions to complete the online PowerSchool Registration process for each student.

• If you have multiple students, you will not receive all of these invitation emails at the same time.

• Families must provide proof of residency each year as a final step in the annual registration process.

• Updated immunization records may be required to finalize registration before the new school year begins.

We are looking for volunteers to come join the fun on May 12, 2023 at Rogers Field Day! We could not make this day possible without a lot of amazing volunteers and we would love for you to join the fun! There are morning and afternoon shifts available.

In a continuous effort to maintain the highest level of safety and security for students on our campus, Frisco ISD requires that all visitors present an ID when coming to campus.

This is true for parents picking up sick students, parents checking students out for appointments, and parents coming for lunch, Mystery Reader, or GMR. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to make Rogers Elementary a safe and secure place for students and staff to learn.

All parents and secondary students are invited to the Frisco ISD Administration Building on April 20, 6-7:30 p.m. to learn about the fentanyl crisis and the resources available to help keep the community safe. The event will also be live-streamed. Please see the flyer below.

A Mystery Reader program is a guest reader, BUT their identity is kept secret to build anticipation and excitement. Teachers may even choose to give clues before they arrive to get the students extra excited!

FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. To volunteer at Rogers Elementary, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.

Please remember that sign ups are required in order to eat lunch on campus with your student. If the sign up for the grade level is full and a parent comes to eat lunch, unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate you that day. The sign up is linked below for quick access!

As a reminder, we ask that parents visit 1-2 times per month to allow all interested visitors the opportunity to eat lunch with their student. You must bring an ID in order to be granted access to the building.

I pushed into the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes this week to give the students a pep talk before testing begins next week. We did an activity that focused on Growth Mindset, Positive Affirmations, Deep Breathing, and Mind/Body Relaxation. Please ask your child about it! I encouraged them to bring home the graphic organizer they created and teach you what they learned.

The kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classes have all received their Personal Safety lesson. They learned rules on how to keep themselves safe and what to do if someone makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable. We talked about the importance of telling their trusted adults if they ever feel if they are being hurt. Please talk to your child and see what they remember! Let me know if you have any questions.

The older grades will receive this lesson after STAAR testing. I am still gathering parent responses from these grades. If you have not yet filled out the Google Form to opt your child in or out of the lesson, please do so. Come enjoy a delicious meal in the Community Garden Kitchen dining room. Open for service Monday through Thursday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. They will be closed on holidays. All meals are free, and no one is required to show identification or complete any paperwork. The wonderful volunteers will be happy to serve everyone in their comfortable dining room. Their mission is to serve freshly prepared meals to anyone in need, in a safe, welcoming place. Dining with dignity is their mission, and there is a restaurant-like dining hall, with individual tables, each seating 2,4, or 6 guests. Their volunteers will be welcoming, kind, and the meals will be nutritious as well as delicious.

We are so thrilled to announce the PTA Lifetime Achievement Award has been given to two amazing women who have helped the Rogers PTA thrive - Jennifer Steckel and Assistant Principal Melissa Barker! They received their awards at Good Morning Rogers last week and we couldn't be prouder! Jennifer has served on the PTA board for three years as our treasurer and this year serves as our board secretary. Melissa has been the most supportive staff member and both ladies have gone above and beyond for our Rogers PTA. We are so lucky to have you both involved in our school!

The Rogers PTA is showing our teachers some love on April 28 with a fully stocked Taco Bar for lunch. If you would like to participate, we are looking for food donations. Food must be dropped off by 9:30 am on April 28 so we can set everything up to make their taco lunch amazing.
