NEWS FROM MR. BOEVE NEWS FROM MR. BOEVE

Hello Eastside Families,

I’m excited to formally introduce myself as the new principal of Eastside Elementary for those I have yet to meet. A little bit about myself: I grew up in Northwest Iowa but have lived in the Iowa City area for most of the past 25 years. I have two sons—Connor (21) and Cooper (18)—and I began my career teaching 6th grade while also serving as a successful head high school basketball coach. My own educational journey took me to the University of Sioux Falls, where I played basketball, and later to the University of Iowa, where I earned my master’s degree

I recently moved to the East side of Madison to be with my significant other, and I am already loving the Sun Prairie/Madison area. The first month of school has been an incredible experience. Meeting families, building strong relationships with our teachers, and—most importantly—working with our learners has been the true joy of this school year so far. It is already clear to me that Eastside is a community filled with passion, pride, and deep commitment to our kids.

When I’m not at school, you’ll often find me cheering on my beloved Minnesota Timberwolves or Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoying some live music, or relaxing with a good movie or TV show.

My door is always open, and I look forward to partnering with you in the best interest of every learner at Eastside. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly—I’m excited about what we will accomplish together.

With gratitude,

Shane Boeve

Principal, Eastside Elementary

Snack Guidelines Snack Guidelines

As we enjoy many celebrations throughout the year, please read about birthday treats and classroom snacks guidelines for the safety of our students with allergies:

1. All treats need to be peanut/tree nut free

2. The food must be store bought, it can't be homemade or made in the home of someone who makes treats for a business (that is NOT considered store bought)

3. The food must be individually wrapped by the manufacturer with the ingredient label

4. Just to be clear, cupcakes in a box are not allowed because they are NOT individually wrapped

5. Treats can also be small nonfood items (water bottle stickers, erasers, pencils, etc.)

Please see below for examples of what can be brought as a birthday treat/classroom snack - it is not all inclusive, just some examples.

Parent/Caregiver Curriculum Guide Parent/Caregiver Curriculum Guide

These Parent/Caregiver Curriculum Guides, available in English and Spanish were created in collaboration with teachers, school social workers, school counselors and administration to provide guidance about child development, end of year learning goals, and how families can support learning through activities outside of school. We welcome our families. We honor what you bring to our learning community. We want to partner with you in ways that help your child.

Tip Line Entry

New Electronic Safety Tip Line

The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for the district. We have been teaching our students to say something to a trusted adult when they see something unsafe. Sometimes, though, there are barriers to reporting safety issues in person. Tip lines are one common approach that schools use to promote school and student safety and well-being. Tip lines are designed to provide students or other members of the public with a safe and confidential way to report a threat to a student or school safety.

To that end, we have created an Electronic Safety Tip Line available on the district website. The e-Tip Line allows students, parents, or community members to report weapons, threats of violence, bullying, sexual harassment, threat of suicide, drugs, and any other activity that could potentially endanger students, staff, and property.

We are developing a communication plan to roll this out to students in upper elementary, middle school, and high school. The e-Tip Line is available on the district website from the “Families” menu and “Quicklinks” and can also be found on the district bullying and safety webpages. If a student wishes to file a bullying report, please fill out a Bullying Report Form on the website.
