Welcome from Principal Drew Wood

Hello Raider Families,

It's hard to believe that we are almost at the end of our school year. I have been blown away by the resilience of our students this year. Despite having missed opportunities and events, our students have shown patience and grit. This year hasn't been easy, but I have been proud to watch our students rise to every challenge presented. We have great young people in our building and are grateful that you share them with us.

We also want to acknowledge the hard work and flexibility that our teachers have shown. Our teachers and staff have done a phenomenal job of making constant adjustments and working tirelessly to support the needs of our students. As we have Teacher Appreciation Week, I encourage you and your student to connect with teachers to show your gratitude. I feel very fortunate to work with these educators and see the difference they make every day.

These upcoming weeks will be a race to the finish line and the last weeks that the Class of 2021 will roam the halls of NHS. I hope that your student enjoys this next month and that your family has a great summer with a much-deserved break!

Final Exams

  • Finals begin May 21 and run through May 26. You can find the exam schedule by clicking here.
  • In order to protect the integrity of final exams, we will not be sending passes for students to leave during testing periods. Your student will remain in the classroom during these times.

  • If your student needs to leave before the end of the school day during finals week, you must contact attendance 24 hours in advance so we can distribute a pass to your student prior to the testing block. If at all possible, please try to pre-arrange this with us before finals week. If you need a student out the same day, you must send a note with your student immediately in the morning, or come into the office and request the student personally. Students must come to the attendance office first thing in the morning to turn in the parent note and pick up a sign out pass for their designated time to leave. Please do not call the day of to request a student to leave early as we cannot process a high volume of calls in a timely manner.

  • If your student will be coming in late, we ask that you pre-arrange this as soon as possible with the Attendance office. Please do not call the day of, but you may send a note to excuse your students or bring them into the office. Due to the potential of a line forming, your student should make sure they arrive with plenty of time to get checked in and arrive in their classroom before the test begins.

  • STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE AND RETURN OVER THE SRT/LUNCH HOUR.

Chromebook Returns

  • Students in grades 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 will keep their devices unless they know that they are not returning to MCS next year. Those students will turn their devices in on collection day.
  • Seniors will turn their device in on May 26th. NHS students who are not returning to MCS next year will also be asked to turn their device in at that time (or when called via PA)
  • 8th-grade students (next year’s freshman) who are taking Summer PE will receive their NHS Chromebook on the first day of PE.

April's Raider Impact Award Winners

In April, we recognized four students who received the Raider Impact Award. NHS staff members nominate students for this award when they see a student shine by doing the right thing, being kind to others, helping someone, or generally sharing positivity! This month we are proud to share pictures of Bryce McConnell, Max Horner, Rylee Evans, and Cameran Arthur.

Cameran Arthur (Junior)

Mrs. Malooley nominated Cameran and said, "Cameran is such an incredible help and force for good in my Themes class. He is always quick to help others, encourage them to stay on task, or pass out papers to help his peers. He gets along well with everyone in my diverse class and continues to keep a smile on his face."

Bryce McConnell (Sophomore)

Mrs. Yoder nominated Bryce and said, "Bryce is great about encouraging and helping new students when they come into the counseling office. He has taken one of our new students around a couple of times to deliver passes and show her where the rooms are. I also saw him reach out to a new student who was coming in behind and Bryce shared his personal story about changing schools to help encourage her."
