A Note from Ms. Martin
Pierce Families,
Wow - what a week!
On Wednesday we had our first fire drill. We teach our students how to safely exit the building in the unlikely event of a fire. With each of the drills, we talk with the students about the importance of following their teacher’s direction and exiting the building quickly, quietly and safely. We want to ensure that our students and staff “prepared, not scared” in the case of an emergency.
Today we had our Fun Run! Thank you to the many families who helped make this fundraiser a success. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to Variety, the Children’s Charity – our nonprofit partner for the last few years. The remaining money will be used to support the Pierce PE department and other PTA programs. If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, you can visit the site here: https://app.memberhub.gives/piercefunrun23. We are still only about half way to our goal of $10,000. Please consider giving if you haven't yet! Thank you!
Our beloved CSO, Carey Shields, will be joining the Pierce LRC team as a Paraprofessional. This means we are in need of a CSO! You can view the job description here. If you or someone you know are interested, please reach out to me via email. (kmartin@birmingham.k12.mi.us)
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Kate Martin, Principal

Not New - But Still Important Information
No Dogs on School Property
We love our fur babies, but ask that you kindly keep your pets off of school property. Our therapy dog, Shadow, will sometimes be out at arrival and dismissal and if there are other pets it can cause a distraction. Thank you!
Volunteering
When Entering the Building...
All visitors to the building (who will be leaving the front office) MUST bring their ID with them to sign in. This is a new requirement within all BPS schools. We will scan your ID and it will check on the sex offender registry. Then, once cleared, we will print a visitor nametag which must be worn and clearly visible. Thank you for helping us to make Pierce a safer environment for your child(ren)!
Volunteer Form (iChat)
If you plan to volunteer at Pierce this year, attend field trips, or come for special events, you should complete this volunteer form! Return to Carey Shields Larson at clarson@birmingham.k12.mi.us.

The Fourth Annual 5K and 1 Mile Run / Walk for S.O.S. will be held on Saturday, October 1st. Join Team Pierce and let's make this our best year yet!
Join your friends and neighbors at Seaholm HS for an event that's fun for all ages. It's the biggest SOS fundraiser of the year! Your participation helps ensure that SOS can continue supporting BPS families with financial assistance and volunteer services. Each year, SOS provides thousands of dollars in financial support to dozens of families in all BPS schools. Interested individuals must register no later than Monday, Sept. 18 to be guaranteed a race shirt.
Flu Clinic
We will be having a flu clinic here on October 3rd from 3pm-6pm in the Commons!
Below is the link where you can sign up for a flu shot appoint time:

Vaccines are open to anyone 6 months old and up. Please bring an insurance card to their apt. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Bloom Pediatrics believes in community health and we feel the best way to fight the flu is to get vaccines to as many members of the community as possible.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday Oct 3rd!
Kids Club
Scheduling Update
I am excited to announce that with the hiring of a new PM Kids Club Director, we have opened up our Friday PM Kids Club! If you had previously been scheduled, you will need to sign your child up again.
Additionally, I am equally as thrilled to share that half day PM Kids Club is now open! Our next Half Day is October 31st. If you had previously been scheduled for this date, you will need to sign your child up again.
Thank you for your patience.
WE ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANTS!
Reminder, we are currently capped at 36 for the AM and PM. Spots fill up quickly.
If you know of anyone who is interested in working in our PM Kids Club as an assistant, please email Carey Shields Larson at clarson@birmingham.k12.mi.us. We have an immediate need to fill these positions. As soon as we can hire more assistants, the sooner we can increase the caps on our programs.
