Greeting Shaw Montessori!
Ready to run? We are! What an incredible effort by our entire community to meet and possibly exceed our school wide goal of $70,000.00. As of this writing, Team Middle School is in the lead with total pledges of $4327.00, followed by Ms. Carolines class at $4292.33 and Ms. Church coming in at $3477.65! Hmm, I wonder what classroom strategies will look like this weekend! As a school we are hovering at just around $24,000.00. Let’s make this a profitable weekend!
On Wednesday, October 29 we will run! The primary run will take place from 8:55-9:25, lower elementary 1st- 3rd grades from 9:35-10:05 and the color run for our 4th-8th graders from 10:15-11:00. We hope you can join us on Wednesday and participate in the fun!
Below you will find a QR code asking for your feedback on our First Quarter Survey. I do hope you will take a moment to let us know how we are doing.
On Friday, many will celebrate Halloween and we do wish you and a fun and safe time! Please, do not send costumes or candy to school with your child on Friday, instead enjoy those tricks and treats at home, this weekend!
Best wishes,
Principal Engdall
Phoenix #1 Quarterly Survey
At the end of each quarter, we ask families to share their thoughts about how we’re doing. Your feedback helps us celebrate what’s going well and find ways to improve. Please take a few minutes to complete our short survey. Together, we can make our school an even better place for every student to learn and grow.

Hi all!
You should have received your proofs at this point. If you haven’t, please contact me and I'll get them out as soon as I'm able.
Your proof email includes information on ordering and signing up for retakes. Sibling groups we weren’t able to get to are already added to the list. Any additional students needing retakes need to signup at this link at no later than Monday, November 3rd. Retake day is Friday, November 7th.
Free digital class photos will be available starting the week of November 10th. Print orders will be ongoing up until the winter break. Please continue to check the See Shaw Shine for updates.
We are trying out a new online ordering form this year. If you experience any problems with it or have questions, please feel free to reply to your proof email.
Thanks!
Tara
Art Room
Hello from the Art Room!
As promised, here’s a look at Upper Elementary’s playing cards. They first created “characters” that served as inspiration for their own playing cards, a lesson that combined design principles, pattern, symbolism and creative problem-solving.
Lower elementary learned how to draw and watercolor “Value” Gems that do indeed look very valuable.
Kinder is learning all about lines… lines, lines, lines!
Thanks, Ms. Allison
Elementary Garden
HELLO SHAW STARS!
This week was our first of the quail block. Most students have really enjoyed the quail. They say, “it tastes like chicken.” I agree. Other students have had reservations about eating the quail. Some students have been effusive about their opinions and have abstained. Therefore, I am introducing a quail rescue program. You can buy back some of our quail if you want to rescue them. This gives these students and families an action plan rather than only opining their perspective. Quail are $15.00 or two for $20.00. Remember Shaw Stars, show respect for all groups, give them a safe space, hear them out and find mutually beneficial resolutions.
We are officially done with coffee grounds. A couple of our parents teamed up with a local coffee shop and have provided enough coffee grounds for the whole year. We will still take tool donations, aluminum cans, glass jars & vases, and anything that might benefit our garden program. If you have questions or concerns, then please contact me via email. This includes any families interested in adopting some quail. My email: james.obrien-moench@phxschools.org
Enjoy your weekend!
Mr. Mulch
Shaw PTA
Dear Shaw Montessori Families,
Shaw’s Fun Run is this Wednesday, October 29th, 🎉 which means only a few final days remain for DONATIONS on MyBooster.com before our big event! 🚨 Help us reach our $70K goal! Every donation, any amount, makes a HUGE impact on our school!
As of last Friday, our donations have reached $26,345 towards our goal. Would you consider reaching out to one or two more people today to help keep the momentum going? Every contribution brings us closer to enhancing the Practical Life Room, a hands-on space where students learn valuable Montessori life skills like cooking, sewing, woodworking and household management.
❗ REMINDER: Be sure to send your student to school on Wednesday wearing appropriate clothing and sneakers to be ready to run.
If you have not signed your children up yet, registration is easy and there is still time. We are hoping to have 95% student registration participation! Thank you for supporting our school’s one major fundraiser of the year! We truly appreciate you!
