Juniors will be taking the ACT on Tuesday March 10th. Most students will report to the Holley or Denver Mill Gyms @ 7:45 a.m. If a student is taking the ACT with extended time, they will receive information pertaining to their specific location.
The standard ACT exam will last approximately 3 and a half hours and will conclude around 11:30 am. There will be no bells on Tuesday March 10th.
ACT Information - Tuesday, March 10th
Important information:
“Taking the ACT Test” pamphlets were given to all 11th grade students this past Thursday during Homeroom. Please look at the pamphlet for additional information. Some important info from this pamphlet is highlighted below.
Please do NOT bring backpacks in the gym as you will not be able to access them. Either leave them in your car, or locker. If you have to bring your belongings, you will be asked to place it in the front of the gym and you cannot access it during the exam or during the break.
Bring a couple of sharpened #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils) with good erasers, a picture ID (school or driver’s license), and an approved calculator (see approved list)
Do not bring cell phones, smartwatches, headphones or any device that can access wifi. If you have to bring them, you will be asked to power off the device and put it away.
Do not bring any textbooks, dictionaries, scratch paper, notes, or reading materials.
Testing locations will be posted outside of the Counseling Hall, Grade Level Office, the cafeteria, the Welcome Center, and the Gym for you to reference by the end of next week. Please note that legal names are used on the rosters posted. This is intended to simulate the environment of national testing scenarios, such as the ACT or SAT, where legal names are required and verified using an ID where the legal name is listed. Please ensure that your student is aware of this and verifies the room assignment using their legal name as it appears in school records.
A small snack will be provided by KHS after section 2 when there is a break (i.e. granola bars, fruit snacks). You are welcome to bring a snack to eat at the break and a water bottle, but you cannot access your bag to get them. They will need to be under your desk during testing. There will also be a snack provided by PPO (Pretzel Boys) at the conclusion of the exam.
Remember to create your ACT account using the instructions sent to your email. This must be completed by March 12th to be able to access your score report.
Schedule on test day:
Students will report to their assigned testing location promptly by 7:45 AM
Testing logistics: student finds their assigned seat, ID’s are checked and directions read.
Tests are taken in the following order:
English (35 minutes)
Math (50 minutes)

Test completed…… Another snack!
- Students will be dismissed at the same time once testing is finished and all materials are collected and secured - this is typically around 11:30am.
- If your student is staying on campus for afternoon classes they will be able to eat lunch following the completion of the test.
If your student will be leaving after testing, you must call or email the grade level office for the absence to be excused.

Reminder About Appropriate Use of School Laptops
School-issued laptops are provided to support student learning and academic work. Recently, we’ve seen an increase in situations where students are typing messages to friends on their school devices (including gmail, google docs, and instagram messenger) that include phrases flagged as concerning.
Please know that we take all language related to self-harm or harm toward others very seriously. When something is flagged, we are required to follow up with the student and, when appropriate, contact parents. While many of these situations turn out to be jokes or casual comments, we must treat each one with care and attention.
Students and families, please remember:
School devices are for school-appropriate use.
All activity on school laptops is monitored and can be reviewed.
We appreciate you helping us keep our school community safe and focused on learning.

Mini Med Camp at MIZ!
I am thrilled to announce that High School Mini-Med School at the University of Missouri Columbia is returning this June for two sessions. Session 1 runs from June 7-11, and Session 2 is from June 14-18.
This overnight camp is for current Missouri high school juniors (rising seniors) who are interested in a career in medicine. Students will attend lectures and will participate in the same Patient Based Learning (PBL) curriculum that Mizzou medical students do. We will have lots of hands-on clinical experiences, time our simulation and anatomy centers and social events in the evenings. This is a great experience for anyone who is considering medical school after college.
The cost for this camp is $650, which includes all the camp fees, lodging, camp deposit of $50 and meals. There are some scholarships available, and the application is free to complete.
The application is now open and is due March 13 along with a transcript and a letter of recommendation from a past or current science teacher. For more information about the camp and the application click the button below!

Xello! A new guidance resource platform.
Dear 11th grade families,
We’re excited to share that your student is using Xello, an engaging online program that helps students build essential skills for future success—both in school and beyond. On Monday, October 6th, all 11th graders participated in their initial career personality assessment called "Matchmaker" in Xello. Additionally, they completed the “Personality Styles” & “Mission Complete” assessments.
Through Xello, students explore career options, learn about post-secondary pathways, and set personal and academic goals. They complete interactive lessons, interest and skills assessments, and build a personalized portfolio that grows with them throughout their school years.
This program is designed to help students better understand themselves and make informed decisions about their future education and career plans. It supports conversations around their interests, strengths, and goals—both in and out of the classroom.
We encourage you to ask your student(s) about what they’re discovering in Xello. You can also explore the platform together at home.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students dream big and plan smart!
*Parents, you should be receiving an email from Xello inviting you to create an account that will be linked to your KHS student.
Students that were present and logged into Xello used these steps:
Go to this website- https://www.xello.world/en/
Click Sign In
Username: KIRKWOOD-student #
Password: Date of Birth e.g. MMDDYYYY
If prompted, change your password
The results to the "Matchmaker" assessment can be found under the “About Me” category, which is at the the top of the Xello Dashboard.
