Thank You Friends of Jarrell Library Group!

A Heartfelt Thank You from Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center

The Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center extends its heartfelt gratitude to Jennifer Leavitt and our Friends Group for their tireless efforts in fundraising over the past year to support our library! Their generous donation will significantly contribute to our operational needs.

Jennifer Leavitt, our dedicated President, has been a driving force in this initiative, often working independently. We are actively seeking more volunteers to join the Friends Group, as a robust team is essential for our success.

The Structure of Our Library System

Our library system consists of three key components:

  • The Executive Board of Directors
  • The Library
  • The Friends of the Library Group

The Friends Group plays a vital role in raising funds for the library. If you possess a philanthropic spirit, this is the perfect opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact in our community!

The future of Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center looks promising, but it will require the support of our entire village to prepare for our upcoming beautiful library complex!

Letter from the Director, Susan Gregurek

Dear Library Community,

Happy Fall! Let the celebrations commence! If you’ve visited the library recently, you’ve seen our vibrant community in action! We have truly enjoyed welcoming many local members to our activities this month. As many of you are aware, Fall marks our fundraising season for the library! We have a variety of exciting activities lined up for October and November to keep you entertained.

We hope you’ll seize the opportunity to join in on the fun, food, and fundraising!

Having Fun and Meeting New Friends in the Library and Resource Center!

Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center: A Hub for the Community

The Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center truly serves as a cornerstone for our community. We offer not only mental health and wellness groups but also create a welcoming atmosphere for all residents Newcomers benefit from our resources, internet services, and opportunities to forge new friendships. Our Senior Games Group continues to thrive, along with initiatives like Seniors That Sew and Crochet for Charity. It’s delightful to witness the laughter, conversations, and camaraderie among our adults.

Our library provides a safe haven for teens, where they can gather, hang out, and engage in community service. They emerge as valuable helpers and leaders within our space.

Young families are also finding joy in making connections while participating in children's literacy activities. Kids are developing essential skills in preschool literacy, socialization, and emotional intelligence, with classes nearing full capacity. Meanwhile, homeschool groups are actively involved in STEM activities, enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities while socializing with peers in the community.

Furthermore, our library and resource center team is expanding our partnerships. Some of our newest collaborators include Williamson County Veteran's Services, Neurodivergent Friends, Bluebonnet Trails, and the Georgetown Sertoma Group.

STEM Explorers Homeschool Group

The STEM Explorers Homeschool Group had a fantastic meetup last month! Each age group tackled exciting, hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Our PreK–2nd graders experimented with light and shadows, the 3rd–5th graders explored the science behind hurricanes, and the 6th–12th graders took on an engineering challenge by constructing and testing their own water towers.

Our next session will be on October 8th from 3-4pm with more exciting topics. PreK–2nd graders, led by Anne Hamman, will be learning about baby animals. The 3rd–5th graders, led by Kathleen DeReese, will be diving into volcanoes. The 6th–12th graders, temporarily led by Ailina Aponte, will be exploring the science of rollercoasters. We are currently looking for a dedicated leader to guide activities for the 6th–12th grade group—if you’re interested in volunteering, please reach out by email at ailinapeerprofessional.jarrell@gmail.com.

This program is a wonderful way for children to discover new skills, spark curiosity, and form friendships, while parents and guardians gain valuable support and community connections. We can’t wait to see you at the next session!

Stress-Reducing Fall Activities for Families

Fall in Texas can bring cooler mornings and evenings, though daytime temperatures often remain warm. It’s a great season for families to enjoy outdoor activities while reducing stress, whether it’s a morning or late-afternoon walk, playing in the yard, or visiting local parks. Cooking fall-inspired meals like pumpkin muffins or hearty soups provides hands-on family fun, and simple crafts such as pumpkin decorating offer creative outlets. Adding cozy routines—reading together, sharing gratitude, or hosting a weekly game night—helps create calm and connection. By combining outdoor time, creativity, and comforting traditions, families can enjoy a balanced and joyful autumn in Texas.

ASD Support Group Launching This Fall

We are excited to announce the start of our ASD Support Group, beginning this September. The group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 6:00–7:00 PM and is designed for children ages 0–12 and their parents.

This program offers a safe and supportive space where families can come together to share experiences, gain resources, and build connections. While children engage in fun, age-appropriate activities, parents will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful conversations, exchange ideas, and find encouragement from others who understand their journey.

The group’s goal is to provide both children and caregivers with a sense of community and support, while also offering practical tools and positive social interaction. Whether you are looking for guidance, friendship, or just a place to belong, this group is here for you.
